Dieses Buch ist wild, durcheinander und fast schon wahnsinnig - ein typischer Douglas Adams halt. Ich glaube, ich habe irgendwo den Faden verloren. Und ich glaube auch, dass das genau so sein musste. Auf jeden Fall hat das Buch dann gleich noch mehr Spass gemacht. Geht das überhaupt? Egal. Wer Douglas Adams liest, rechnet mit dem Wahnsinn. Grossartig, Adams ist ein Meister seines Fachs!

An einem Schalter am Flughafen Heathrow steht ein besonders großer blonder Mann, der weder Ausweis noch Kreditkarte und ganz sicher kein Flugticket hat. Dies ist ein Problem, denn er möchte nach Norwegen fliegen. Der Mann wird wütend und weniger Sekunden später explodiert der Schalter. Die Sachverständigen bezeichnen dies als "Spontane Materialermüdung". Der Detektiv Dirk Gentley ahnt jedoch, dass hinter diesem Vorfall etwas ganz anderes steckt. Der absurd geniale Humor, den man aus der Anhalter-Büchern kennt, funktioniert auch in diesem Detektiv-Roman über einen ganzheitlich arbeitenden Detektiv. Die Handlung ist allerdings etwas lahm.
