A quiet village in Normandy, 1932. Ludo is ten years old and lives with his uncle, a kindly, eccentric creator of elaborate kites. And so begins Ludo's lifelong adventure of love and longing for Lila, who only begins to return his feelings just as Europe descends into the devastation of World War 2. After Poland and France fall, Lila and Ludo are separated. Ludo's friends in the village must find their own ways of resisting: the local restaurateur who is dedicated above all to France's haute cuisine, a Jewish brothel madam who sleeps with her unwitting enemies and Ludo, who cycles past the Nazis every day, passing on messages for the French Resistance - thinking always of Lila.

Unglaublich. Nur so kann man dieses Buch beschreiben. Es war ein Prozess dieses Buch zu lesen, ich habe geweint und gelacht. Man konnte viele Zitate und Parallelen erkennen, welche mit der heutigen Zeit übereinstimmen. Ich bin immer noch fasziniert wie Romain Gary geschrieben hat und die Geschichte Ludo's erzählt hat. Ich würde jedem empfehlen dieses Buch zu lesen, um die Grausamkeit des Krieges wenigstens nur ein wenig mit erleben zu können. Ich werde dieses Buch nun für eine lange Zeit nicht vergessen und in meinem Herzen tragen. Ein wahres Meisterwerk, welches in Schulen PFLICHT sein sollte. Es ist erschreckend wie man die Parallelen des zweiten Weltkriegs in der heutigen Zeit wieder erkennen kann..
