Tears in my Ranwan eyes.
I don't even know what to say. The last chapter was absolutely horrific and I sat there terror-stricken as I read it. I honestly had to skim read until it was over, it was so unexpected, my heart genuinely broke into a thousand pieces for Wanning and also Mo Ran. The last chapter washed all the bitter sweetness of the entire rest of the volume out of my mouth and left the stale taste of ash in its place. What the fuck. At least we got a beautiful cover I guess? (Cries internally in neverending misery) The Mount Jiao arc was also really rough, I had already guessed it would go down the drain in the previous volume and yet it was so much worse than expected. Nobody ask me about "A Gentleman's Word", I'll actually crash out and jump into the blood pool. Still, the parallels between Mo Ran and Xu Shuanglin were incredibly well portrayed and are honestly the selling point of this volume to me (besides Chu Wanning's backstory of course). I couldn't help but feel sorry for Xu Shuanglin instead of resenting him. Someone give my man a second chance oh my god. Again on Mo Ran and Xue Meng — my beloved doomed cousins — I'm suing Meatbun istg. She better bring back my baby Shi Mei too.
Unfassbar Traurig.

Destiny of the Rufeng Sect and the Chess Player
I didn't finish this book, this book finished me 😭😭😭 The last volume was mainly positive and so much fun, but this one was focused on the main story again, which is more of a tragedy atm 🥲 BUT in the best way possible. This is what I want to feel, reading a 5☆ book! Just all the emotions 😭 The journey to get to the one behind everything continues, and we get the whole story of the Rufeng Sect. Very interesting, but also very sad. Then there are a bunch of reveals and the big "plottwist," aka the big baddie entering the scene. It was pretty obvious who it could be, but it's still something different, seeing it all play out 💀 I didn't expect anything about the last part though. That totally caught me of guard. Chu Wanning deserves the world. Why does he have to suffer so much 😭 The last 30 pages were... wild. With a mean cliffhanger as well. Like what is going on?! Can't wait for the next volume. This is a masterpiece 🩵
