The sweetness of the present and the darkness of the past
(Slight spoilers about their relationship if you haven't read the last volume) I just love this series so much, even more since they are finally together now ❤️ It's so cute seeing them exploring that relationship, especially how Chu Wanning reacts. He is so embarrassed all the time, but also can't hide how much he wants this 🤭 So about half of the volume is "just" day to day stuff on Sisheng Peak with them getting more and more intimate 😏 Mo Ran, that dog, just can't stop touching his shizun, and many spicy, but also funny scenes occur 😂 But, of course, it can't stay this idyllic forever, especially after what happened in the last volume. After a while, they head out when they hear word of the possible whereabouts of the one responsible. Once again, Mo Ran is confronted with his past and having an identity crisis. I like how the story is again and again reminding us how truly awful he was in his first life and asking the question of whether he can be redeemed. The question he is also asking himself while being terrified of someone, especially Chu Wanning, finding out the truth. Absolutely amazing volume again. I love them so much. This is what I am talking about when I say I want "enemies" to lovers slowburn! It was finally really burning and that is so much more satisfying after everything they've been through 🥹 I am also really curious who is behind everything (well, I already have a theory who, but not about what that person wants) 👀 Also we just now reached the halfway point of the story. How is there so much more happening 😶
Another somewhat slower volume, but still many worthwhile passages.
I have to admit that I've never been a fan of smut scenes so this volume was a little rough. Still, since Meatbun likes to make these scenes lengthy (cries inside) there is some precious insight contained within. We actively saw Mo Ran deciding and striving to behave differently from before while being fully aware of how terrible his previous actions were already, but especially now with focus on Wannings comfort as their relationship progresses, and that makes me truly glad because I was expecting the opposite based on what I was told by others before starting the series. I just noticed this in particular when reading volume six. In general, I have to say that my heart really bleeds for Mo Ran. Chapter 207 truly made me feel so much pain for him. I could really feel his guilt and torment bleed through the pages. And the way Chu Wanning tried to comfort him? Somebody please kill me. Also Xue Meng and Mo Ran? The angst is so damn good. The illustration in chapter 191 almost made me cry. The glimpses into Mo Ran's previous life and his development into Taxian-Jun open the reader's eyes more and more to just how tragic all these events and misunderstandings really were. Like the blurb reads: "Calm Before the Storm", I can basically sense bad events in the following volumes. Shout out to Nangong Si and Ye Wangxi on this note. My favorite doomed straight couple, you better not let anything bad happen to you.
