A FINE KETTLE OF FISH

When Prince Jing is sent to quell the disturbance at the western border, there’s no question that Li Yu will accompany him—as his boyfriend and as his pet fish! Li Yu’s mission is to help Prince Jing secure his position as heir to the throne. However, the new couple is in for a surprise when Li Yu makes a much bigger splash in the imperial line of succession: even male fish can lay eggs now!

With four bouncing baby fish in tow, Li Yu and Prince Jing must work extra hard to dam the trouble brewing at the border. Despite the challenges, Prince Jing is determined to make Li Yu his official consort. Will the emperor approve of this unusual union? And how will Li Yu and Prince Jing protect their new family from the treacherous machinations of the imperial court?

    Fishy family

The most eventful volume, I'd say. So many things happened, especially with their relationship progression. They are still such a cute couple, and I love them together 🥰 While this series has no explicit scenes, we know what is going on and I loved how enthusiastic Li Yu was about it 🤭 In a lot of danmei novels I've read one of them is often really passive, just letting things happen (because it's too embarrassing), but Li Yu has no shame and often asks for it 😂 The political plot is also slowly reaching its peak, and I am excited to see how Prince Jing will get the throne 😤 I have more to say about the volume, but for that I have to mention stuff that might be considered a spoiler (though it already says so on the back/blurb and you immediately know when you see the colored page in the beginning), so just a little warning here: So, the biggest thing in this volume is that they are having kids. I knew this beforehand and was a bit worried because I don't like mpreg (or any kind of stuff around pregnancy and kids), but it was fine, especially since it happened more as a fish 😅 I am still not a big fan of this storyline (especially how they got in that situation), but I loved how accepting Prince Jing was about everything and they are a cute family 🥹❤️ Just the explanation for everyone else, why a cis man was able to give birth to his children was ridiculous! I can't believe that just worked 😅 Well, and I also really enjoyed the merman plot 🤭 Though, again, I have to clock the art for not matching with the description in the book 😅 First, the cover with the wedding outfit doesn't match, especially since there is art on the inside that does (but the cover still is absolutely gorgeous), and another one where there is a picture of a scene that isn't even described, just hinted at (as in that will happen later, but we never get any details). It was a nice drawing, so I'm not complaining, but it's weird how often this series has these inconsistencies 😅 (there is another one, but I'm saving it for volume 4 because it's about the bookmark of the special edition xD). Anyways, great volume. Looking forward to the next/last one 🥰
