Description
Buntaro Mori is a loner, but being alone in a crowd is almost as bad as being forced to fit in. When a dangerous bid for solitude introduces Mori to the rush of solo climbing, he becomes addicted to the brilliant sense of freedom he finds as he pits his body and soul against the heights. But how high does he have to climb to leave humanity behind?
Despite the tragedy and notoriety that marked Mori’s introduction to climbing, he is still obsessed with the allure of the mountains and determined to keep up with his grueling training plan—even if his minuscule budget means he needs to get creative. All the creativity in the world doesn’t end up being enough to fund an actual expedition, though, so when a rich adventurer offers him a spot on his ambitious K2 climbing team, Mori reluctantly accepts. Suddenly he’s got more new gear than he knows what to do with and an invitation to an amazing training climb in the Japanese Alps. But Mori’s joy at being in the mountains again is tempered by his knowledge that humans are more treacherous than any peak.

Band 3 von The Climber hat mich erneut stark in seine ruhige, ernste Welt hineingezogen. Ich hatte beim Lesen ständig das Gefühl von Einsamkeit und innerem Druck, das perfekt zur Entwicklung des Protagonisten passt. Die Geschichte verzichtet weiterhin auf viele Worte, was ich als große Stärke empfinde, weil dadurch Emotionen und Konflikte viel direkter wirken. Besonders beeindruckt haben mich die grandiosen Landschaften. Die Berge, Schneeflächen und weiten Ansichten sind so detailliert und atmosphärisch gezeichnet, dass ich beim Lesen oft innegehalten habe, um die Bilder auf mich wirken zu lassen. Sie verstärken nicht nur die Dramatik des Kletterns, sondern spiegeln auch den inneren Zustand der Hauptfigur wider. Auch wenn der Manga auf Englisch ist, hatte ich keinerlei Probleme, der Handlung zu folgen. Die Dialoge sind simpel gehalten und vieles wird rein visuell erzählt, sodass selbst mit geringen Englischkenntnissen alles gut verständlich bleibt. Genau das macht Band 3 für mich besonders zugänglich. Insgesamt ist The Climber Band 3 für mich ein intensiver, ruhiger und visuell beeindruckender Manga, der nicht durch Action, sondern durch Atmosphäre und Charaktertiefe überzeugt. Ein klarer 4-Sterne-Band, der Lust auf mehr macht.
