Cornelia Funke is the most internationally acclaimed and best-known German children’s author. She lives in Los Angeles, California today, but her career as an author and illustrator began in Hamburg. After obtaining an MA in education followed by a degree in graphic design, she began working as a freelance illustrator of children’s books. She did not always enjoy the stories she was commissioned to illustrate and so decided to write her own. Her bestselling books include DRAGON RIDER, the WILD CHICKS series and THE THIEF LORD, which was responsible for her international breakthrough.
