Genau das passiert Aviva und Holly, den beiden jungen Protagonistinnen in diesem Buch. Sie sind beide 12 Jahre alt, beide von ihren zwei Familien adoptiert und sind am selben Tag geboren. Dabei könnten sie unterschiedlicher nicht sein. Aviva ist ein extrovertierter, quirliger Musical/Theater-Enthusiast und Holly ein introvertierter Bücherwurm mit verstecktem Talent fürs Schlittschuhlaufen. Als beide sich in der Altersresidenz kennenlernen, in der Avivas Großmutter lebt und die sich auch Hollys Großvater anschauen soll, entwickelt sich eine Geschichte ala dem Märchen "The Prince and the Pauper", mit dem Twist, dass es nicht um Prinzessin und gewöhnliches Mädchen geht, sondern die Unterschiede der beiden Feiertage um Hanukkah und Weihnachten erläutert werden. Ich habe vor allem deshalb extrem viel über Hanukkah gelernt und konnte mich daher mit Holly, die normalerweise Weihnachten feiert, sehr gut identifizieren als sie plötzlich in Avivas Familie saß und nicht wusste, was ist Hanukkah eigentlich. Es wird zwar auch nicht im Detail erklärt, aber gut genug, um zumindest zu wissen, nein, es ist nicht das jüdische Equivalent zu Weihnachten. Insgesamt ist "Let it glow" ein wundervolles und unterhaltsames Weihnachtsbuch, das einen auf jeden Fall in Stimmung bringt und wie gesagt lernt man sogar noch etwas dabei. Und die Freundschaft oder mehr zwischen Avivas Großmutter und Hollys Großvater ist so niedlich und toll erzählt.
