I know next to nothing about horror movies, but even I got a couple of references to horror movies throughout the book. This book is good for a few thrills and it does bring the horror and gore elements of a slasher. I actually liked the ending, but I see why a lot of people complain about it. It is abrupt and it leaves a lot of unanswered questions and a couple plotholes. I disliked how preachy the book was about race and gender. It felt forced and unnatural. Same goes for a lot of Alices inner monologue. If a sentence starts with "look, I'm not slut shaming BUT..." you better stop yourself right there.

Ein wirklich toller YA-Horror-Roman über die Schülerin Alice, deren Schwester Claire voriges Jahr an Halloween brutal ermordet wurde. Ihr Leben ist dadurch zusammengebrochen und der Täter droht frei zu kommen - bis sie einem Mädchen begegnet, das aussieht wie die Protagonistin des Horrorfilms »Scream«, das sie überraschend in der Zeit zurückreisen lässt. Jetzt hat sie die Chance, ihre Schwester zu retten - doch muss dabei feststellen, dass vieles ganz anders ist als gedacht. Von der ersten Seite an muss man die Geschichte einfach lieben; Alice ist eine sympathische und interessante Protagonistin, die man einfach mögen muss. Und auch der Plot ist wirklich fesselnd, denn nicht nur erwartet einen eine blutrünstige Mörderjagd, man rätselt auch mit, wer wohl wirklich hinter allem steckt und es gibt viele krasse Wendungen. Dennoch ist die Geschichte auch etwas aufgelockert durch eine gute Prise Humor und eine süße Lovestory am Rande, so dass man insgesamt auch viel Spaß hat. Der Schreibstil, der aus Alice' Sicht erzählt, liest sich dabei ebenfalls super flüssig und leicht. Alles in allem liefert das Buch also echt alles, was man sich davon hätte wünschen können und ich hab mich super unterhalten gefühlt. Definitiv eine Empfehlung für Fans von Horror, die Lust auf eine charmante, verrückte Geschichte mit Teenagern haben.
