Breaking the rules just for fun is too easy – the real challenge lies in perfecting the art of knowing which rules to accept and which to rewrite. The only reason why I wanted to read this book so badly was because of the Netflix series of the same name. I’ve read the first two or three chapters quite quickly but I only read the rest to get done with it. I think she bragged a bit too much, kind of bashed the reader for being less successful than her and basically said the same thing over and over again. The only thing I truly appreciated were the tips for applications and job interviews. She obviously worked hard for her success and loves her job as well as her brand but I was bored by her repetitions.
Auch wenn ich den Kern der Story sehr interessant finde, so hatte ich mir unter dem Buch etwas ganz anderes vorgestellt. Tipps, Tricks, natürlich auch den Werdegang von Sophia Amoruso aber alles im allem fand ich es ok. Sophia Amoruso schreibt in ihrem Buch #girlboss von ihrem Weg. Sie hatte schon eine schwierige Kindheit aber weniger wegen dem Elternhaus, sondern, weil sie einfach anders war. Depressionen & Co. wurden scheinbar viel zu spät entdeckt aber da nahm die Geschichte schon ihren Lauf. Sie erzählt lebhaft und teilweise auch untermalt mit Bildern aus der Vergangenheit, wie sie sich als Kind und Jugendliche durch die verschiedensten Phasen geschlagen hat und wie sie letztendlich immer wieder zu ihrer großen Liebe: der Vintage Mode zurück kam. Sie war nicht die beste in der Schule und hatte generell von diesem Modell nicht viel gehalten, weshalb sie auch später mit Anfang 20 sich von Job zu Job hangelte. Sie blieb nie wirklich lange irgendwo angestellt, sie machte was sie will, teilweise lebte sie von der Hand in dem Mund, durchwühlte Müll, nahm Drogen usw. Erst der Umstand, dass sie wegen eines Leistenbruchs dringend medizinische Versorgung und somit in den USA eine Krankenversicherung braucht, bewegt sie zudem Schritt einen Job anzunehmen, der nicht nur super langweilig ist, sondern auch nur wieder so lange „genutzt“ wird bis sie ihren Willen hatte: die Behandlung des Leistenbruchs. Zu dieser Zeit, in diesem langweiligen Job, macht sie aber einen entscheidenden Schritt der ihr komplettes Leben von Grund auf verändert wird: sie eröffnet einen eBay Account und legt damit den Grundstein für ihr Imperium Nasty Gal. Innerhalb von 8 Jahren wird sie zur CEO eines 100 Millionen Doller Unternehmens. Alles in allem ist das Buch #girlboss eine Erzählung des Lebenslaufs von Sophia Amoruso über ihren Weg von ganz unten nach ganz oben. Stellenweise war es auch wirklich interessant, aber an anderen Stellen wiederum doch etwas verstörend. Im Großen und Ganzen fand ich eigentlich erst den letzteren Teil des Buches sehr interessant. Hier sprach sie über ihre Leben als CEO und wie sie sich verhalten müsse, gab aber auch insgesamt viele gute Tipps wie z.B. wie man sich auf Vorstellungsgespräche vorbereiten sollte. Am meisten zugesagt haben mir die vielen kleinen Zitate die zwischen den Kapiteln eingearbeitet wurden und auch die gezeichneten Bilder mit #girlboss Hinweisen wie z.B.: Mir ist schon vor Langem klar geworden, dass erfolgreiche Menschen selten einfach nur dasitzen und darauf warten, dass ihnen Dinge widerfahren. Sie stehen auf und widerfahren Dingen. Leonardo da Vinci Wie bereits zu Beginn erwähnt hatte ich mir einfach etwas komplett anderes vorgestellt, weshalb ich nicht zu 100% mit diesem Buch zufrieden war. Nichtsdestotrotz kann man hier ein paar Tipps und Ratschläge mitnehmen.
I really liked this book. Sophia's story is inspiring and she really motivated me to get up and get shit done. That woman reached so much without a proper education and no business skills whatsoever. But why don't I rate it with 5 stars? The answers is that I simply enjoyed "I am that girl" so much and couldn't help and compare girlboss to it. To me Girlboss was more of a biography than an advice book. Sophia did a lot of "bragging" about her successes and rambles through the book - so if you don't want to read things like that, stay away from #girlboss. Nevertheless I'd encourage you to read the book if you are a really lazy person and want to kick-ass in the future.
