In this work, archetypal because of how easy it is to identify with some of her characters, Mary Shelley tells the story of a man who challenges Nature trying to avoid death. His transgression costs him dearly, because death constantly haunts his family and, even, himself. The monster that Dr. Frankenstein creates is not bad or violent, but the lack of love (the thesis of romanticism as a literary current) causes his destructive behavior.
