Neil Gaiman wurde 1960 in England geboren und arbeitet als Journalist in London. Bekannt wurde er insbesondere durch seine Comic-Serie »Sandman«. Es folgten etliche gemeinsame Comic- und Kinderbuchprojekte mit dem Künstler Dave McKean (u.a. »Mr. Punch« oder »The Wolves in the Walls«) und Comics wie »Die Bücher der Magie«. Er schrieb Erzählungen und Romane wie »Niemalsland« und »Der Sternwanderer« sowie das zusammen mit Terry Pratchett verfasste Buch »Ein gutes Omen«. Mit »Keine Panik!« legte er eine Biographie über seinen Kollegen und Freund Douglas Adams vor. Einen internationaler Bestseller gelang ihm schließlich mit dem Roman »American Gods«. Gaiman lebt seit einigen Jahren mit seiner Familie in Minneapolis, USA und wurde für seine Arbeiten mit zahlreichen internationalen Preisen ausgezeichnet.

My grandma showed this to me and said this was a picture book gramps really liked, so naturally I was thrilled to read it. What I like most is 1) that Neil Gaiman masterfully crafted a story that is eery and unsettling, but never scary. He gave us a heroin that is unshakeably brave and clear-headed and I loved how there's a chastising about not believing your children. 2) The art style is DELECTABLE! Incredible! The fusion of, once again, eery shapes and faces, paired with the familiarity the photographic elements provide (like the jam jars) - chef's kiss. Really enjoyed this one!
