About the book

I don't know, maybe I don't entirely get it, maybe I try to see more in it than there is. The story itself was interesting and had a nice twist, but the motives didn't make sense. Yes, it was revealed that it's supposed to be over the top in some way, but nothing about the way it was written made that concept work for me. It didn't feel well integrated and more like the author made the characters say it is unusual because he needed to save the whole thing. Also, all the dialog and some other sentences were really pretentious. This is just not at all the kind of book that works for me: not the writing (even though it was beautifully simplistic at times), not the characters, not the overall feel of it. Would this have been a short story of 20-30 pages focusing on the letter story exclusively, I might have liked it more, but as it is, it's a nice idea packed with a lot that didn't work.
