And yeah, that’s the energy. That’s the entire energy. This is book two in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series and somehow the dial didn’t just get turned up - it got ripped off, thrown into a pit, and replaced with a screaming goblin holding a chainsaw. You’ve got Donut. You’ve got Carl. You’ve got Mungo. And together? Absolute chaos crew. No notes. Zero. Perfect. The book doubles down on everything: More gore More blood More guts More “did that really just happen??” And… more surprise babies??? (???) It’s unhinged in the best possible way. The kind of story where you’re laughing one second and the next second something explodes, screams, or emotionally devastates you before you’ve even processed the joke. That said - okay, honesty moment - the beginning didn’t grab me quite as hard as the first book did. Not bad. Not even close to bad. Just… the first one hit like a truck made of pure chaos and this one takes a second to rev the engine before it runs you over again. But once it gets going? Yeah. You’re back in it. No escape. No sanity. Just vibes and violence. And honestly, that’s the magic of it. It shouldn’t work. None of this should work. Laser cats, dungeon insanity, game mechanics, emotional gut punches, but somehow Matt Dinniman makes it all click into this beautifully deranged, addictive ride. Final verdict: If you liked the first book, this is more, louder, bloodier, weirder and somehow still lovable. Carl didn’t ask for this apocalypse. But I absolutely did.

Coudn't wait for the german translation so here wo go again "english edition". This story is an absolute rabbit hole and I'm diving head first into it. Now we know there is an even bigger shit show going on behind the shit show we are already in and it's taking me on the edge of my seat. Carl and Donut have a lot more crawlers and intergalactic creatures to look out for while trying not to die just by the game rules. But that man in his boxers and his princess cat are not going down so easily.

Book two just does everything book one does and more. I really liked the concept of actual story threads being introduced and how that could play out in this particular environment of the dungeon crawl. It doesn't follow a typical book's story arch in the way you would expect, but that doesn't diminish it. Just let yourself be taken on this wild ride! Carl and Donut also get better characters chapter by chapter. I don't know what I was expecting after book one, but their relationship and personality in general always surprises me in a positive way! Keep on going you two! Don't break!
Nachdem ich Sorge hatte, dass weitere Teile in dieser Reihe sich repetitiv anfühlen wurde ich eines Besseren belehrt. Das Buch war von Anfang bis Ende unfassbar interessant, spannend und abwechslungsreich. Es ergaben sich auch neue Dimensionen und eine neue Tiefe für dieses Universum. Ich kann Teil drei kaum abwarten
Wieder ein wilder und unterhaltsamer Ritt
Nicht so gut wie der erste, weil das ganze System, der Witz und die Absurdität nicht mehr so neu sind. Dennoch absurd und brutal unterhaltsam. Es werden immer neue Wege gefunden die Situationen zu eskalieren oder auch zu lösen, die kreativ und dennoch nachvollziehbar sind. Das mag ich sehr. Viel Storyfortschritt gab es nicht, es wirkte eher wie die Vorbereitung auf Zukünftiges - insbesondere alles was außerhalb des Dungeons im Universum passiert. Aber bin sehr gespannt auf Teil 3, vor allem weil Carl mittlerweile echt viele Feinde hat!
Der zweite Teil hat mich ehrlich gesagt schneller gepackt als der erste. Man ist direkt wieder mitten im Chaos und merkt sofort, dass die Welt größer wird, die Stakes höher sind und alles ein gutes Stück intensiver wird. Was ich besonders mag ist, dass die Reihe auch emotional immer mehr Tiefe bekommt. Carl entwickelt sich spürbar weiter und ich habe mich dabei erwischt, stärker mitzufiebern als noch am Anfang der Reihe. Und Donut bleibt eine Ikone. Anders kann man es nicht sagen. Teilweise war es mir wieder etwas zu detailreich bei den ganzen Dungeon Mechaniken und Kämpfen. Wenn man nicht komplett in dieser Gaming Logik drin ist, kann das stellenweise ein bisschen anstrengend werden. Aber gleichzeitig gehört genau das natürlich auch zu dieser Welt. Für mich fühlt sich alles runder an als im ersten Band. Die Spannung zieht an, die Figuren gewinnen an Kontur und man merkt, dass hier eine größere Geschichte aufgebaut wird. Nicht perfekt, aber extrem unterhaltsam und definitiv der Grund, warum man nach dem ersten Band unbedingt weiterlesen sollte.

This sequel goes bigger, louder, and somehow even funnier. The sass, chaos, and ridiculous dungeon mechanics are just as addictive, and Carl & Princess Donut remain an elite duo. The plot escalates in the best way and keeps the pages flying, even if things get a bit messy at times. Wildly entertaining!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Ich habe es nicht für möglich gehalten, aber Band 2 war sogar noch cooler als Band 1! Carl ist einfach ein Mega cooler Protagonist und die Nebencharaktere sind genauso überragend und mit Tiefe geschrieben, wie Carl. Matt Dinnimans Humor killt mich immer wieder und ich erwische mich immer wieder dabei, wie ich beim lesen laut lachen muss. Die Welt um den Dungeon und die Unternehmen dahinter werden immer abgefuckter je mehr man erfährt und schockiert immer wieder. Diese Reihe begeistert mich so sehr und ich will gar nicht mehr dazu sagen als „LEST DUNGEON CRAWLER CARL!“ und „Ich bin dann mal Band 3 lesen.“
