4.0Schwacher Start, starkes Ende
Das Buch beginnt eher schwach: Die Figuren wirken blass, ihre Handlungen schwer nachvollziehbar und die Dialoge lesen sich oft konstruiert und gestelzt. Eine echte Verbindung zu den Charakteren (insbesondere zu Emil) entsteht anfangs kaum. Auch die Liebesgeschichte zwischen Cathy, Emil und Kaspar wirkt erstmal eher aufgesetzt: Die Gefühle entstehen plötzlich, ohne dass die Charaktere wirklich Zeit miteinander verbracht haben. Doch ungefähr ab der Mitte des Buches, entwickelt sich das Buch überraschend gut. Die Geschichte entwickelt sich in eine komplett andere Richtung, wird ernster, gewinnt an Tiefe und das Emporium entfaltet plötzlich seinen besonderen Charme. Auch die Dialoge werden plötzlich besser, als hätte der Autor selbst auf einmal in die Story hinein gefunden. Der Autor beweist Talent darin, Welten zu konstruieren – stimmungsvoll, detailreich und mit einem Hauch Magie. Es ist nur schade, dass er es nicht schafft, die Charaktere genauso lebendig wirken zu lassen. Mit etwas mehr Ausarbeitung in der Hinsicht, hätte das Buch ein echtes Highlight werden können.
