About the book

'This book may help those who are susceptible to illnesses that can be prevented with proper nutrition' - His Holiness the Dalai Lama

The international bestseller, Dr Michael Greger's How Not To Die gives effective, scientifically-proven nutritional advice to prevent our biggest killers - including heart disease, breast cancer, prostate cancer, high blood pressure and diabetes - and reveals the astounding health benefits that simple dietary choices can provide.

Why rely on drugs and surgery to cure you of life-threatening disease when the right decisions can prevent you from falling ill to begin with?

Based on the latest scientific research, How Not To Die examines each of the most common diseases to reveal what, how and why different foods affect us, and how increasing our consumption of certain foods and avoiding others can dramatically reduce our risk of falling sick and even reverse the effects of disease. It also shares Dr Greger's 'Daily Dozen' - the twelve foods we should all eat every day to stay in the best of health.

With emphasis on individual family health history and acknowledging that everyone needs something different, Dr Michael Greger offers practical dietary advice to help you live longer, healthier lives.

Very informative! It tries (and I think succeeds) to include everything important on nutrition. I especially like the chapters on the most common diseases and the last part about the daily dozen, spices, etc.

This book is my bible. Not only in size but also as my everyday guidance. It took me 1,5 years to finish it (with a lot of small and big breaks in between) after reading it on blinkist first. Even the blinks accomplished to get me fixed on a plant-based whole food diet and combined with two documentaries "Forks over knifes" and "What the health?!" this book accomplished something I never could on my own for the last five years: to completely change to a plant-based diet. As a nurse I appreciated the evidence based argumentation and the simple to understand but still scientific explanations to every single point he is trying to make. I have to admit, that I read the second part about the variety of foods and their nutritional value first, as I could implement that new found knowledge right away in my everyday life. But after that I started to read the first part where he starts with common diseases and then reverses back to their connections with our intake of animal products. There was not one chapter that I didn't take notes of and I'm starting right now to re-read these notes from the beginning again. There is so much valuable information in it - it's almost impossible to keep everything in mind, so I will continue to get out my notes every few months from now on. This is not a highly recommended read. It's a must read!
