"Das andere Geschlecht: Sitte und Sexus der Frau" von Simone de Beauvoir 5/5☆ "Man kommt nicht als Frau zur Welt, man wird es." Simone de Beauvoir schildert in ihrem berühmtesten Wert die Situation der Frau in der patriarchalischen Gesellschaft als anderes Geschlecht. Dabei geht sie vor allem auf historische und mytische Entwicklungen ein, die die Frauen in die Unterdrückung geführt haben, führt die heutige Situation mit ihren verschiedene Verbindungen von Mann und Frau in Form der Ehe, Liebschafts, Erziehung, etc. auf und entwickelt Lösungsvorschläge für eine befreite, gleiche Gesellschaft. Ich war begeistert von "Das andere Geschlecht". Die Autorin stellt nicht nur komplexeste Zusammenhänge logisch dar, sondern liefert auch ein extrem hohes intelektuelles und sprachlisches Niveau, was mich dazu bringt, dieses Werk als meine Bibel anzusehen. Teilweise wurde vor allem der historische Teil etwas langwierig, das Buch hat aber im Allgemeinen 900 Seiten, sodass es sich ganz schön zieht. Weiterhin muss man beachten, dass "Das andere Geschlecht" 1949 erschienen ist, sich auf die damalige Situation bezieht und de Beauvoir auch nicht den Anspruch hatte, ein universelles, immer gültiges Werk zu schaffen - im Gegenteil, Sinn ist ja schließlich die Veränderung des Status Quo. Demnach muss man beim Lesen einige Punkte als (glücklicherweise!) nicht mehr zeitgemäß betrachten. In manchen, wenigen Punkte wiederspricht die Autorin also modernen Vorstellungen und Idealen (z.B. in Bezug auf Homosexualität oder die ökonomische Situation). Dennoch war ich absolut begeistert von der erschütternden Klarheit des Buches und den analytischen Fähigkeiten de Beauvoirs, eine Situation exakt zu erkennen, begründen und zu lösen.

wow. first of all, i am FINALLY DONE. 900 pages of intense feminism and existential philosophy. probably the most important book i‘ve read so far. beauvoir was a POWERHOUSE! and a genius as well. i have no idea how she was ever able to write that book. it captures probably every aspect of womanhood ever - from history, biology, sociology, the bible to prostitution, language, menstruation, motherhood, wifelife and many more. i learned SO much and i have highlighted even more. there are chapters i will return to before entering those seasons, just to remind myself. (i will also write a paper about this book‘s statements about the „woman“ compared to eve from the bible - very excited about it.) honestly recommend everyone to read this book once in their lifetime. it is hugely necessary and explains womanhood so well. i read this in university and i was actually very disappointed with how other students read and interpreted this book. it shouldn‘t be read as a facts-book. it is a philosophical work - a very good philosophical work. it analyses and thinks philosophically, psychologially about different scenarios in its polarizing form. think bigger instead of picking out statements you don‘t agree with… and realize that this book was written in the 50s, where the role of the woman was solely to be a wife and mother with 2.5 kids. beauvoir was WAY ahead of her time and she had to write as strong and polarizing as she does for the book to even get recognized and talked about. and it certainly worked. so before you critique it in its details, try writing your own 900 page groundbreaking, timeless feminism bible. pff.
