Wer würde nicht mal gern in der ein oder anderen Arbeitsmail schreiben, was er wirklich über die andere Person denkt? Jolene macht genau das. Um ihren Frust rauszulassen beendet sie die Mails an ihre Kollegen mit hasserfüllten PS Nachrichten - bevor sie die Schriftfarbe auf Weiß abändert. Naja, bis sie es einmal nicht tut. Die Quittung? Ein Antidiskriminierungstraining (wow, was ein Wort) und (ups, kleiner IT Fehler) Zugriff auf die Postfächer ihrer Kollegen. So erfährt sie nicht nur, was ihre Kollegen wirklich über sie denken und welche Geheimnisse sie selbst haben, sondern auch von bevorstehenden Entlassungen. Der Klappentext hat mich direkt angesprochen. Das Buch ist humorvoll geschrieben und auch die Entwicklung der Beziehungen zwischen den Charakteren war spannend mitzuverfolgen. Manchmal war es mir allerdings alles ein wenig zu chaotisch und ich hätte mir mehr Einblicke in Jolenes Vergangenheit, die offensichtlich eine große Rolle gespielt hat, gewünscht, um ihre Gedanken und Handlungen besser zu verstehen. Und auf was ich mich auch gefreut hatte? Mehr als zwei PS Nachrichten. Trotzdem ein gutes Buch für zwischendurch ☺️

But I'm more interested in the parts that people want to show me.“ Jolene mag weder ihre Bürokolleg:innen noch ihren Job. Als rauskommt, dass sie ihren internen Mails böse kleine, „unsichtbare“ Nachrichten hinzufügt, muss sie beim neuen netten & gutaussehenden HR-Manager, Cliff, einen Verhaltenskurs belegen. Zugleich kann Jolene durch einen technischen Fehler plötzlich alle Chats und Mails ihrer Kolleg:innen sehen — um ihre Arbeitsstelle und ihren Ruf im Büro zu retten, nutzt sie diese neuen Infos für sich. Als sie ihre Kolleg:innen immer mehr mögen lernt, kann sie ihr schlechtes Gewissen kaum noch verstecken; und es kommt, wie es kommen muss. Ich hatte sooo eine gute Zeit mit dem Buch (und glaube, es eignet sich zu 100% dazu, verfilmt zu werden 👀). Alle Figuren, auch die Nebenfiguren, sind mir mit der Zeit ans Herz gewachsen, weil sie nicht nur eindimensional bleiben. Sie alle haben ihre eigenen Handlungsstränge mit Jolene, wodurch sie immer mehr ins Zentrum der Story rücken. Man hat irgendwann das Gefühl, es existiert eine kleine Bürofamilie, deren Mitglieder sich nur blöderweise nicht leiden können. Neben dem alltäglichen Bürohass, der sehr humorvoll dargestellt wird, werden ebenso viel die Themen Einsamkeit und Nichthineinpassen behandelt. Es schwingt stets eine Kapitalismuskritik mit, wenn der Roman von Mobbingattacken unter den Kolleg:innen erzählt, die unter dem Druck des Arbeitsplatzverlustes stattfinden und ist ein guter Reminder, dass ein corporate Job es echt nicht wert ist, seinen moralischen Kompass über Bord zu werfen. 🫠 Mir hat das Buch soso viel Spaß gemacht und ist genau das Richtige, wenn ihr auf der Suche nach einem easy read seid, der nicht oberflächlich ist.
Lustig und unterhaltsam
Am Anfang hat es sich etwas gezogen und ich wusste nicht so ganz ob mir das das Setting und die Personen zusagen, aber es wurde wirklich lustig und die Storyline auch „rund“, was ich anfangs noch nicht wirklich dachte. Insgesamt coole Geschichte und toller Schreibstil vor allem. Ich mochte es 🥰
Fun and very dark romcom about working an office job that's soul-sucking and seems pointless and the people that might make it worth it? Read for yourselves! I think many can relate with quite a few aspects of this book, I definitely had to laugh out loud a few times and felt caught.. however there is also a lot of heavier topics like mental health and family problems interwoven with the main story, so it's not just a parody. I enjoyed myself while listening to the audiobook, read by Nasim Pedrad, even though the audio is unfortunately a bit inconsistent volume-wise. Recommended for fans of snarky female leads and golden retriever guys and everyone who works in an office and sometimes wonders what the eff they are doing there 😅

Was this objectively an awesome book? Probably no because the plot was quite predictable and the chapter design felt a bit too short for me. But did I still enjoy this book so so much? Oh hell yes!!!!!!!! As someone that works corporate this entire book is just fun, it’s silly and realistic and also dramatized but all in the best way, if you simple project it onto your own workplace! Natalie Sue also truly is just really really funny
I Hope This Finds You Well is a book full of honesty, comedy, sadness and so much love that this book got five stars for me. It's incredible that this is Natalie Sue's debut because she has such a way with words. Her writing style is fluid and very understandable and yet it goes so deep into the emotions and makes a sentence full of meaning. Jolene is a character you could read straight out of sitcomes. Such a simple and lovely woman that you take to your heart from the start. Her actions are questionable, but her intentions are always well thought out. All the other characters too, whether it's Cliff, Miley, Armin or Rhonada were written with so much thought. All of these things made this book so great and I can't wait for a possible second book by this author! I loved it 5/5
Like many others, I was a bit blindsided by how this book was marketed as a “wildly funny and heartwarming office comedy.” I went in expecting something mostly light and humorous, but instead found a story that leans heavily on a traumatic backstory that leaves the main character anxious and depressed. For me, that didn’t fully work. The backstory often led to quite repetitive, self-pitying inner monologues. [Spoilers from here down] The characters also felt fairly flat overall, and I didn’t always understand or their decisions. Jolene, in particular, never really felt fully developed. There’s such a strong focus on her traumatic high school experience, but we don’t get a clear sense of how she got to where she is now, especially given how deeply that trauma still seems to affect her ability to function in the present. The resolution towards the end also asked for a lot... When Jolene’s meddling is revealed, the consequences feel strangely minimal. Realistically, it’s not just career-ending but potentially relationship-ending as well, yet everything seems to resolve a little too neatly, with relationships even improving. Similarly, her drinking problem is mostly glossed over and resolves almost on its own. That said, it was still entertaining enough to finish. It’s an easy read, but in the end, I think this just isn’t my genre.
