The Conditions of Will

Ich bin mir ehrlich gesagt selbst nicht sicher, ob ich das Buch mochte oder nicht. Der Schreibstil war typisch Jessa Hastings und hat mir (nach kurzen Startschwierigkeiten) wieder sehr gefallen. Georgia (aka der Boxsack der Familie Carter) war definitiv ein Highlight – ihre Fähigkeit, Menschen zu lesen, war super spannend. Aber Girl, bitte lern Grenzen zu setzen. Die Story selbst war eher ruhig und stark character-driven. Statt irgendwelcher Glücksgefühle habe ich die meiste Zeit jedoch nur Wut verspürt. Zu Maryanne will ich mich hier gar nicht äußern, ich bin fassungslos. Die Mutter? Auch nicht viel besser. Oliver? Ja, sein Leben war nicht leicht und er hat schlimme Dinge erlebt, aber er hat mich auch wirklich Nerven gekostet. Was mir hingegen sehr gefallen hat, war Tennysons Entwicklung. Es war definitiv mehr Familiendrama als Love Story, welche ich auch nicht ganz nachempfinden konnte. Mir ging hier irgendwie alles zu schnell und ich hab es nicht gefühlt. Ich glaube, ich werde dem Buch zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt noch eine zweite Chance geben. Vielleicht war ich auch nicht in der richtigen Stimmung 👀 Was ich aber gemocht habe sind die kleinen ‚Magnolia Parks‘ und ‚Daisy Haites’ Momente zwischendurch. Ich freue mich jetzt schon auf das nächste Buch (@Jessa, bitte möglichst bald), um die Situationen aus der anderen Sicht zu lesen 🐝🌼

Ich hab es sooo geliebt. Eine wohlhabende Familie mit komplexen Dynamiken innerhalb des inneren Kerns. Hauptprotagonistin ist Georgia, die Mikroresonanz studiert hat. Immer wieder analysiert sie innerhalb der Familie und auch Menschen, denen sie erstmalig begegnet, deren Mimik und liest diese Personen regelrecht. Darüber hab ich in Romance Büchern noch gar nichts gelesen und fand es wirklich mal erfrischend nach dem ganzen Hype um Sport- Romances. Jessa Hastings hat die Geschichte einfach toll erzählt. Und das Cover des Buches ist einfach richtig toll. Außerdem sind die Seiten wie Büttenpapier gestaltet. Für mich war es ein etwas unerwartetes Highlight. Sowohl auf die Geschichte als auch auf die Buchgestaltung bezogen💚.

More serious, more reflective, more multi-layered. This book resonated deeply with me. It’s so much more than just a love story and family drama/mystery. It’s about love, faith, grief, addiction, trauma, growing up and LGBTQ+ in the American South. Toxic relationships are certainly one of Jessa Hastings’ recurring themes, but this time the romance between the main characters was anything but toxic. It was the Carter family’s dynamics that were, at times, almost unbearable. I was sometimes horrified by how they treated one another. Jessa Hastings’ writing style is truly unique—you’ll either love it or hate it. I personally adore her metaphor-rich, overflowing sentences because they bring her narrating characters so vividly to life. Georgia felt incredibly human and real! I admired how bravely she navigated her complicated family situation. I would have run away more than once. Her ability to read people was also a fun addition to the plot. The deep connection I felt with Georgia cracked something open in me, mirroring feelings I hadn’t yet found words for. ‘The Conditions of Will’ is a book that will stay with me long after the last page. Not only because of its beautiful cover.
