Description

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A powerful, blazingly honest memoir: the story of an eleven-hundred-mile solo hike that broke down a young woman reeling from catastrophe—and built her back up again.

A Kirkus Reviews Best Nonfiction Book of the Century

At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State—and she would do it alone.

Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.

I tried to give this kind of book a chance, but this genre is just not for me. Very little happened and the thing that interested me most (how her life went on) wasn't mentioned.

I like this kind of hiking trip books, especially when they are written by people who are not used to live in the wilderness or doesn’t have much experiences in going on a pilgrimage. This book is much more about the story of the relationship between a mother and her daughter, about growing up and making mistakes. When you are looking for a detailed description of the PCT then you might be disappointed after reading Wild. But when you are looking for a book that shows you the hard way of woman to get back on the track of life then you will have fun with it. I did.

One of the BEST books I've ever read! I really LOVED it!!!! From the beginning to the end I felt like I wpuld be Cheryl. I felt her pain, I felt her happieness about every little (for other people probably irrelevant) thing. So easy to read, and so amazing at the same time! A real life story!

Read it far away from home; absolutely in love with it.

oh I've really enjoyed this book. Cheryl is such a fierce and bad-ass woman I'd love to be a bit more like her!!

Bought this somewhat ten years ago from audible, and wanted to finish it. Finally fell asleep on the last hour to just jerk awake when she finishes her trail.

The incredible story of a woman robbed of everything she held dear and that mattered to her. After she lost her mother and her marriage went downhill Cheryl flees into meaningless sex and drugs. When she can't take it anymore she stumbles unto a book about the Pacific Crest Trail and is immediately captured by the idea of hiking it. I enjoyed this book so much it was thrilling and motivating that even when live is hard you can find the strength to continue. It is an unbelievable story. I loved loved loved this book. It was such a quick read and I can't wait for the movie to come out just to see what they did with the story.
