(I've read the German edition of this book) "Gone" is the first installment of a (if I'm right) six-book-series. The next installments are "Hunger", "Lies" and "Plague". What would happen if every adult will be gone in a blink of an eye? 14-year-old Sam Temple has to answer this question: During education his history teacher disappears in a moment, he's gone. And any other adult and all kids that have reached their 15th birthday also. In Perdido Beach, the location where this all happens, don't work any electronic device like phone, internet, TV or radio. Sam tries together with his friends Quinn, Edilio and Astrid to keep the kids calm. Then some other kids arrive from the rivaling Coates Academy and their leader Caine wants to take over control in a violent way. But Sam and some others have special "powers". And Perdido Beach is now the "FAYZ", the Fallout Alley Youth Zone which is covered by a dome and cutted from the rest of the world. Sam has 299 hours and 54 minutes to save the kids from their enemy Caine before he turns fifteen years old too... "Gone" is my first book by Michael Grant and I was impressed by his writing. Very interesting to read are the different points of view from each character. You can feel with Sam how shocked he, his friends and all kids are about the disappearing of all adults and how they try to bring life back to something like normal. The upcoming violence when Caine appears in Perdido Beach is drastically written, therefore I recommend this book to readers of 14+. Some questions are not answered in the end but it's a great beginning to a very interesting series and I can't wait to read the next installment "Hunger".
