Uff das war episch gut
0,5 Abzug gibt es von mir, weil mir der Einstieg extrem schwer gefallen ist. Es hat sehr langsam begonnen und es prasselten so viele (teils unaussprechliche) Namen und Orte auf mich ein, dass es schwierig war sich vom einen aufs andere mal überhaupt alles zu merken. Mit der Zeit habe ich aber ein Gefühl dafür bekommen, wer wichtig ist und wen man sich nicht unbedingt merken muss. Außerdem hab ich mir mehr Fantasy erwartet und musste mich erst damit arrangieren, wie die Geschichte erzählt wird. Als ich das aber verstanden hatte, konnte ich mich richtig auf die Geschichte einlassen und uff es war einfach so gut. Ich musste teilweise wirklich lachen, bei Merlin's Auftritten und Gesprächen. Auch die Darstellung von Arthur fand ich sehr mitreißend und teilweise überraschend. Zu Lancelot sage ich jetzt nichts, lest das selbst ;P Und die Frage ums Kamel fand ich auch immer wieder amüsant... weiß doch jeder! Ich freue mich schon sehr darauf, direkt mit dem 2. Teil zu beginnen und dann auch die Serie zu schauen und zu sehen, wie zB Merlin und die Schlacht umgesetzt wurde. Für mich ist diese Buch ein Highlight dieses Jahr, das mich noch eine Weile beschäftigen wird.
4,5/5 It took me quite a while to finish this. I've been on a huge reading slump in the last few months. The Winter King is an excellent first third to Cornwell's Arthurian retelling. I haven't read anything else by him and I'm really liking his style of writing stuff that spans over the time of many years. Cornwell could've easily stretched this into a thousand pages book with all the stuff going on in there, but he didn't, which I appreciate. Instead it's a (for me) surprisingly fast-paste story that mostly cuts to the chase real quick. And the stuff that it cuts to is excellent, engaging and full of interesting characters.
