Max is a rambunctious eight-year-old whose world is changing around him: His father is absent, his mother is increasingly distracted, and his teenage sister has outgrown him. Sad and angry, Max dons his wolf suit and makes terrible, ruinous mischief, flooding his sister’s room and driving his mother half-crazy. Dave Eggers versetzt den beliebten Bilderbuchklassiker "Wo die wilden Kerle wohnen" von Maurice Sendak in Romanform in die heutige Zeit. Max lebt bei seiner alleinerziehenden Mutter mit seiner Teenagerschwester und ist ein "schwieriges" Kind, das ständig aneckt. Er hat Wutanfälle, zerstört Dinge, und stromert - zum Missfallen der ordentlichen Nachbarn - alleine durchs Wohngebiet. Als er in einem Wutanfall seine Mutter beisst, rennt er in seinem Wolfskostüm davon und flieht ... mit einem Segelboot ins Land der wilden Kerle... Das Buch ist - typisch Dave Eggers - scharf gesellschaftskritisch und überdreht. Ich fand den Anfang super aber der Teil über die wilden Kerle war mir einfach zu fantastisch skurril. Trotzdem ein interessantes Buch mit guter Idee.
