Reading the first of Lagercrantz's books in the Millennium series, I noticed the difference in writing style to Larsson's but I couldn't put my finger on it until I read other reviews. Larsson's writing felt distinct with its detailed and lengthy prose and fleshing out of characters. I also felt the way he weaved the stories was very clever and had a lot of layers, leaving me guessing and in suspense. The Girl in the Spider's Web was a comparitively short read, but introduced some interesting characters and plot points. However, I felt the plot could have been more intricate and it seemed fairly straightforward for the protagonists to overcome certain challenges. Due to the length of the book, or perhaps the timescale in which it takes place, I also felt we missed out a bit on the interactions and relationships between the some of the characters. After I got two thirds of the way through the book, I imagined more of a cliffhanger with the amount of pages left. Lagercrantz had a tough act to follow but I think he did well all things considered. I enjoyed the book because I'm a fan of the genre and the protagonists Blomkvist and Salander, so I will happily continue to follow their escapades.
