One of my favorite Christmas books. A unique retelling of Charles Dickens' a Christmas Carol, where the protagonist is basically a Scrooge, but fails and dies and is "punished" to be the Ghost of Christmas Past for the Scrooges in the following years. It sounds wild, but how it all works - with Holly being dead and a Ghost but also kind of alive - is explained extremely well in this book. We have some magic, but also technology, and the concept of Project Scrooge overall was very thought through. Holly is an extremely unlikeable character, which like, makes sense, because she is like Scrooge and didn't feel the need to change. But even with her snarky comments and her superficial thoughts, she still grew on me and I was rooting so much for her during this book. A book about family, love, friendship, self improvement and second chances.
3,75 Sterne Tatsächlich hat es mir weit aus besser gefallen, als ich zu nächst erwartet hätte. Und das obwohl es an manchen Stellen sehr vorhersehbar war. Aber der Autorin ist es gelungen mich total in der Geschichte versinken zu lassen. Auch wenn ich persönlich ein etwas anderes Ende passender gefunden hätte. Wenn ich so weiter drüber nachdenke, es ist in gewisser Weise die klassische "A Christmas Carol"-Story, weshalb man auch sagen könnte, ganz schön kitschig^^. Es geht um Selbstreflektion, aber auch darum, zu wissen das man immer selbst in der Hand hat, wie man sich gegenüber Menschen aber auch sich selbst verhält. Wie gesagt, das Ende fand ich etwas drüber, da hätte zum Ton der Geschichte eine etwas andere Variante besser gepasst. Aber mir gefiel der Weg dahin. Die Idee das es eine Firma gibt, die die Geister der Weihnacht zum "Scrooge" des jeweiligen Jahres schickt, fand ich kreativ und witzig umgesetzt. Außerdem hat es die Autorin auch geschafft, sich klug um verschiedene Prämissen herum zu winden, damit nicht ständig erklärt wird, wie das Ganze überhaupt funktioniert. (Allerdings stört es mich sowieso nicht so sehr, wenn bestimmte Dinge einfach so sind, wie sie sind ohne das erklärt wird weshalb.) Für mich war es einfach eine absolut passende Lektüre für die Feiertage und am Ende hat es mir wirklich gut gefallen.

This story is a retelling of a Christmas carol, meaning our lead lady is a failed Scrooge. Wich is not a Spoiler. Holly was chosen to be saved by project Scrooge, but sadly she didn’t take it seriously and died. Yeah ... that happened. Since then, she has been the ghost of Christmas past. Holly is not the best human alive ... or well ... dead, but she does her job. Tho this time around, everything seems to be a little off. And all just because the new Scrooge is so much like her. Or is she like him? For the first time she feels a connection deeper than before, wich kinda complicates everything, leaving one question: will she do what’s right for him or rather for herself?
So muss ein Weihnachtsbuch sein und nicht anders. Diese kreative Story voll von Weihnachten, Wunder und Liebe mit einer Charakterin, die einen so mitfühlen lässt wie keine andere und eine Entwicklung hat, dass man sprachlos ist vor Rührung. Tolle Chemie zwischen den Charakteren, Humor und das mit beste Ende für ein Buch, was man sich vorstellen kann - LEST ES. Ich sitze immer noch hier und weine etwas, weil mich lange kein Buch mehr so mitnehmen und begeistern konnte. FROHE WEIHNACHTEN. GOD BLESS US. EVERYONE.
