this is a perfect book! everything fits, the writing is great, there are no boring parts, it feels realistic AND dreamy, the character dynamics are authentic, the world building and slight taste of magic is beautifully done, and i love love love the queer rep in this. there's a cute romance but it still focuses on sibling relationships and female friendship. and i haven't read a ya book that deals with sexual assault in such a strong yet nuanced way. i'd say read it in one sitting on a summer day or in winter when you're sick of winter. either way, it will transport you to a whimsical island, you'll have fun, yet this book still talks about a serious matter. i really don't mind that it was somewhat predictable as i still had a good time.
