Ein leider leicht enttäuschendes Jugendbuch über die Schülerin Josie, die einen Schreibwettbewerb gewinnt und deshalb das Porträt für einen aufstrebenden Schauspieler schreiben und an der Premiere und Pressetour seines neuesten Films teilnehmen darf. Doch da bemerkt sie, dass ein bekannter Regisseur am Set viele Frauen belästigt und als eine von jenen sie fragt, ob sie darüber nicht einen Artikel schreiben kann, muss sie sich entscheiden, ob sie über ihre Unsicherheiten hinweg sehen und das Richtige tun kann. Der Schreibstil erzählt aus Josies Sicht und ist dabei relativ einfach gehalten, so dass man die Story gut verfolgen kann. Dennoch ist der Plot für mich leider eine Enttäuschung: es braucht eine ziemliche Weile, bis die Geschichte wirklich losgeht und auch die sich dabei entwickelnde Lovestory wirkt eher ablenkend und unnötig. Besonders die Charaktere wirken aber etwas unsympathisch. Nicht nur ist ein zentraler Nebencharakter oft sehr zickig und nervig, auch Josie nervt mit ihren großen Unsicherheiten und zeigt im Buch weder sonderlich Stärke, noch steht sie wirklich ihren Mann. Nichtmal von ihrem angeblichen Schreibtalent kriegt man was zusehen, obwohl das immer wieder gelobt wird. Und auch beim wichtigsten Inhalt geht der Plot leider nicht weiter in die Tiefe; zwar bekommt man schon mit wie wichtig es ist, sich gegen sexuelle Belästigung zu wehren und das auch gegen Menschen mit viel macht, dennoch gibt es weder keine tiefgreifenden Emotionen, noch erfährt man irgendwas, was man nicht schon wusste. Schade, denn die Idee hätte eigentlich eine tolle Message und eine gute Charakterentwicklung beherbergen können. Insgesamt kann man das Buch also schon lesen, um sich mal mit dem Thema zu beschäftigten, besonders wenn man noch jünger ist, aber wirklich etwas kann man daraus leider nicht mitnehmen. Schade.

Die Message ist wie immer super wichtig und ich liebe es, wie sie fat PoC Charaktere in den Vordergrund stellt und ihnen das Rampenlicht gibt. Außerdem sind beide Protagonist*innen bi, wovon es super wenig Repräsentation sonst gibt - bi Charaktere in einer hetero Beziehung sind halt trotzdem noch queer, so what? Mir hat einfach so ein bisschen der rote Faden gefehlt. Es ist ein Mix aus coming of age, Josies riesigem Crush auf Marius, ihre Etablierung als echte Journalistin auf einer Pressetour, anxiety und ehemaliges Mobbing (speziell fatphobia), People of Color in der Filmbranche, der #metoo Bewegung... und noch viel mehr. Es sind einfach super viele Themen, wodurch der Fokus verloren ging, was echt schade war, weil es halt so wichtige Themen waren.
This book was very interesting. I loved Josie she was really cute and I also loved the plot and the side characters. I also loved the questions Josie asked during interviews and press conferences. However sometimes certain chapters ended way too soon. I hated how Josie started an interview with someone and then almost at the beginning or the middle of the interview the chapter ended and the next chapter would skip to the next day. I hated how I read one interview and in the next chapter I kind of get a summary of what was said in that interview rather than reading the whole interview if that makes sense. All in all the book was really cute and interesting but for me the last like 30 pages were the ones I finished so quick because I couldn’t put the book away. I give this book a 3.5/5!!
