About the book

You move in with your boyfriend and you totally luck out with your new flat. It's perfect and the neighbors seem nice. But there is always a "BUT", isn't there? Because the neighbours are not as nice as you thought in the beginning... "The Magpies" really made me appreciate my neighbors. I live in a place with all in all 11 flats. I have neighbors next door and neigbors beneath me. Of course, living in a flat like this, you overhear stuff. Banging doors, children crying, arguing, shutters being opened or let down. That's normal. Sometimes, when there is a party, you will hear music and laughter. But that usually doesn't happen every day. But now imagine that you have a neighbor that complains EVERY. FUCKING. TIME. you make a little bit of noise. And I don't mean Once A Year Birthday Party Noises, but noises that are part of your everyday live. Flushing the toilet, or cleaning it. Music in moderate volume. The TV. Sex. And they don't complain by stopping by, they write you a letter. Anonymous. Then there are the hoax calls. Parcels you didn't order. Spam mail. And one day you receive a CD and when you listen to it, you hear yourself having sex with your boyfriend. Your neigbors record you. And then, at night, they will play music. Music that you were a bit afraid of when you were a kid. But how do they know about that? You start to get paranoid. And then even worse things happen ... It would all have been a rather nice story. If it wasn't for the author to try and make it a Stephen King kind of story. Suddenly there is this paranormal vibe that just doens't go with it. It doesn't fit. And the actions of those neighbors take this crazy turn, that is absolutely overdone. I didn't read the last fifth of this book properly, because it had lost every appeal to me when the thing with the baby happened. I just wanted it to end.
