In den letzten Tagen habe ich die Bücher aus der Expanse Serie weiter durchgesuchtet. Dieses Buch war insofern besonders, weil wir mehr über die Protagonisten erfahren, die wir seit mehreren Bänden begleiten. Da ich nicht spoilern möchte, versuche ich nicht zu viele Details zu verraten. Häufig erlebt die Crew der Rosinante zusammen ein Abenteuer, in diesem Band jedoch muss (fast) jeder sein eigenes Abenteuer bestehen, das eng mit seiner Vergangenheit verbunden ist. An manch einer Stelle wird es erstaunlich persönlich. Ich war deswegen überrascht, weil ich mit dieser Tiefe nicht gerechnet hatte. Natürlich gibt es auch in diesem Buch Raumschiffgefechte, an der einen oder anderen Stelle viel Gefluche und auch der Humor der Raumfahrer blitzte gelegentlich durch. Gleichzeitig machte mich das Buch nachdenklich, weil die Geschichte ein weiteres Mal zeigt, wie abhängig wir Menschen von unserer Umgebung sind - und dass diese Abhängigkeit sich vermutlich auch nicht in der Zukunft reduzieren wird. Sie wird nur anders sein. Und dass Kriege um Ressourcen für uns wahrscheinlich stets eine drohende Gefahr sein werden. Auch der fünfte Teil ist erneut actiongeladen, ohne „flach“ zu sein, sodass mir das Lesen viel Spaß bereitete. Ich kann nur wieder betonen, dass eine gleichbleibende Qualität in meinen Augen bei Serien nicht selbstverständlich ist. Klar, man hat seine Lieblingsteile, doch insgesamt lässt für mich der Lesespaß nicht nach.
Einfach nur großartig. Die Reihe wird besser und besser mit jedem Buch.
Finished it! It was so good. Every PoV was fun, and I really enjoyed that there were no random character PoVs like in the last two books. I love when the crew of the Roci is together, but because they went separate ways this time, there is a looooot going on, which was great. Every storyline is exciting, fast paced and although everyone has different goals to begin with, everything comes together in the end. I love this series. I'm so excited for the next one 😍
4/5 stars I loved the intimacy we get to experience with the crew of the Rocinante in this, and I think it establishes the free navy extremely well, as well as having a brilliant story like with Naomi and her past, something which has been brewing for a while. I felt that it was a satisfying insight into the dark sides of her character that we hadn't been shown yet. Anything negative about this book comes purely from my preference of less super fast paced action packed writing, which made this book feel more rushed for me than the others. The way it all came together in the end was done really well though, and I found the ending to this to be a good setup to what will be in store in Babylon's Ashes. "Looking back through history, there were a lot more men who thought they were Alexander The Great than men who actually were."
