This was one of the fastest DNFs for me ever and i can only echo the complaints others have already posted: what was the point of having the book start with a villain from the 'i'm smarter than the world and if you all just knew how much smarter than you i was .... '? Very unlikeable and the rest of the world didn't compensate enough for me to read further.

È difficile stabilirne esattamente l'inizio e la fine ma in linea di principio inizia quando i due giocatori hanno terminato di sviluppare i propri pezzi e la struttura dei pedoni ha assunto una fisionomia più o meno definita e termina quando, avendo cambiato la maggior parte dei pezzi, si ha una transizione verso il finale. In genere gli obiettivi dei giocatori in questa fase consistono nello sfruttare i vantaggi creatisi durante l'apertura per poter portare delle minacce al re avversario, creare combinazioni favorevoli o semplicemente portarsi verso un finale vantaggioso. A seconda della posizione che si è venuta determinando dall'apertura il mediogioco può assumere un carattere dove è predominante l'aspetto strategico e quindi la pianificazione più o meno a lungo termine o l'aspetto tattico dove predomina invece il calcolo.” In effetti questo è un sunto perfetto di Middlegame di Seanan McGuire, una lunga partita a scacchi, ripetuta chissà quante volte, tra due gemelli, uno signore della parola, l’altra dei numeri, e lo spietato Re di bastoni: è possibile riscrivere la storia (la propria storia) così come si può cancellare un’equazione che non porta da nessuna parte e ricominciare daccapo? Bellissimo romanzo e doveroso ringraziamento a @oscarvault che ha dato ai suoi lettori la possibilità di leggerlo in anteprima. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
