Auch wie bei den anderen drei Teilen dieser Buchreihe hat mich die Geschichte von Victoria und Ilryth begeistert. Ich bin schon so sehr gespannt auf den fünften Teil mit den Werwölfen. Freu mich riesig darauf 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

It's a great book dealing with important topics like second chances and a failed marriage. And it does have a happy ending but why does it still feel so sad? 🫶🏻🥲
Story was okay, but compared to the other Kova stories this was lacking.
I have no idea what is lacking. Maybe I was just not into it. But it took me around 10 attempts to read this book. I started, but at some point in the first chapter I stopped and decided to pick another book. I think the first few chapters were not that interesting to me. It was around the middle of the book that I got hooked, somewhat. I don't know what else to say.
My least favourite book in the Married to Magic series so far, but it's also hard to top the favourite that was the previous book. Mermaids are my favourite fantasy trope, however this book dragged out the miscommunication trope way too long. The last quarter is really good, especially the ending. (And the bonus chapter) I assume the next book will be the final in the series, considering her previous series always have max 5 books, so I can't wait to see how Elise Kova is going to wrap up this amazing world she has crafted.
Spoilers ahead. Edit: After giving it a few days, I do like the book. I couldn’t stop thinking about the story and Victoria. How everything played out, how it ended. I couldn’t let it go. Couldn’t let go Ilryth and his pain and that he abandoned his duty as a Duke to get Victoria bacl. I am keeping my old review, but change my rating :) In the end the book managed to get me. ——— I am not sure how I feel about this book. The first 30% didn’t quite catch me, but I finished the book today in one sitting. I enjoyed the story, obviously, but I didn’t feel anything while reading it. Victoria goes through intense character development But I couldn’t be happy for her? I don’t know why, but I just didn’t feel for her. She was bland imho. Maybe it didn’t feel like for me that she was free and then again not and supposed to be a sacrifice, because four years of her life were skipped. I didn’t really feel sorry for her for her crew, because we didn’t get to know them, and i just didn’t truly feel when they offered her their money, because she was always good to them. I didn’t feel for Ilrys or what his name was, siblings. I didn’t understand which side Fenny was on in the end? She ratted Victoria out and then… helped? Lucia seemed wholesome though. I liked the ending though. That they take the place of the gods , but… make it better, I guess? That they get their happy ending. I really liked it and it did come to me as a surprise, I really thought Kova breaks them up again. Glad that didn’t happen. But I couldn’t get a connection to the characters :/ It is my second Kova book, so I don’t know if this was a slip up? Would love to give four stars, but in the ends it’s more like 3,5 :/ Also posted on goodreads
I don’t know why, but the storyline reminded me a lot of spiritfarer, with her coming to terms with her impending death, forgiving herself and coming to terms with her past. Can’t explain why but it was a cozy relaxing read for me.
Das Buch hebt sich nicht nur komplett von den anderen Einzelbänden aus dieser Reihe ab weil es im Wasser spielt - auch die Liebesgeschichte der zwei ist auf einer ganz anderen Ebene. Der Start der Geschichte ist unfassbar stark! Ab der ersten Minute war ich voll drinnen - hab mit Viktoria mitgelitten und mitgefühlt. Sie hatte sich einem Mann versprochen und ein durchweg unglückliches Leben. Als sie sich davon lossagen wollte gerät sie ins Wasser und kurz vor ihrem Tod rettet Sie ein Sirenen Herzog. Er wählt sie aus als Opfergabe. Gibt ihr aber noch 5 Jahre an Land. Und die nutzt Viktoria und ihre alte Geschichte zu Ende zu bringen und sich ein eigenes Leben aufzubauen. Bis sie erneut bei Ilryth landet und sie weiterkämpfen muss - bis sie ihr Schicksal endlich annehmen kann. Was eine Geschichte.. zwischendurch etwas zäh aber es gibt auch nichts was man wirklich weglassen könnte, da alles wichtig für die Geschichte war. Spannende Charaktere begegnen uns. Teilweise besänftigen sie meine Seele, teilweise haben sie mich auch in Aufruhr versetzt - so sehr das ich mühe hatte weiter zu hören. Die Geschichte ist die einer Legende - vor allem gegen Ende betreten wir eine ganz neue Ebene die sich von der, der anderen Geschichten stark abhebt. Was ich super fand war die Idee der Opfervorbereitung. Das war super spannend umgesetzt vor allem mit Hinblick auf Victorias Leben unter den Menschen. Das ganze hatte dadurch auch einen schönen Moralischen Hintergrund: Wir sind was wir erlebt haben. All das gehört zu uns und formt uns und macht und aus. Es ist ein teil von uns. Wirklich eine spannende Umsetzung! Nochmal müsste ich es nicht hören und ich bleib dabei das Band 2 bis dato mein liebster ist - aber ich bin fasziniert wie Kova die Geschichten aus dieser Welt erzählt und so gespannt auf Band 5 mit den Werwölfen! Und ich hoffe das im letzten Band (welcher auch immer das sein wird) alle Fäden nochmal stärker zusammenfließen.
