> Driven by his insatiable need for revenge, Lothaire, the Lore's most ruthless vampire, plots to seize the Horde's crown by offering up the soul of his lovely new captive, Elizabeth Peirce. Yet the young human soon tempts him beyond reason. < First of all, the cover makes the book look like a cheap smutty story without any depth or plot outside of the main characters lovestory. Luckily that isn’t the case and the story is actually interesting. I like the world these characters live in and the idea that supernatural beings have their own order and that all creatures humans could think up actually exist here. Now for the characters themselves: Lothaire is very unlikable. He has his sweet moments but those don’t weigh out his horrible traits and the way he treats Elizabeth. He is incredibly arrogant, old fashioned and snobbish and even after he figures out who his true Bride is, he still treats her weirdly. But he gets way better throughout the book and in the end he is a very different person to what he was in the beginning. Elizabeth is strong willed, stubborn and very brave. Also, she is possessed. But she’s not making it easy for the demon, never not looking for a way to get rid of it. Her banter with Lothaire is entertaining and I really enjoyed reading their interactions. What I didn’t like though is how easily she forgives him and goes back to him over and over again. But again, like Lothaire, she grows throughout the book and makes Lothaire work a bit in the end before she forgives him. All side characters were interesting and their involvement with the main characters was well written and important to the plot. They didn’t just exist without adding anything but were actually meaningful. The story itself was good and all in all it was an entertaining book to read.
