Nach langer Pause nun endlich Teil 4 der Reihe um Comoran Strike. Hatte sowohl das deutsche ebook sowie die Originalausgabe in der Bib, habe mich dann für das Original entschieden. Das Buch beginnt mit der Hochzeit des Paares Robin/Matthew, welche eigentlich mit einigen Desastern beginnt und die ganze Ehe kurz vors Scheitern bringt bzw. die Beziehung komplett in Frage stellt. Zusätzlich zu einigen Beziehungsdramen kommt ein Fall, der seltsam beginnt, ein psychotischer junger Mann kommt in die Kanzlei und ein Minister bittet kurz vor den Olympischen Spielen in London um Hilfe bei einer Erpressungssache. Hängen beide Fälle vielleicht zusammen? Mit knapp 800 Seiten ein sehr langes Buch, welches mit dem politischen Zusammenhang zwischen konservativen Ministern, linksradikaler Agitation gegen Olympia und die damit verbundene Gentrifizierung sowie der gesellschaftlichen Gegensätzen innerhalb der britischen Gesellschaft (Upper Class etc.) einige beinhaltet. Insgesamt war ich von der Auflösung überrascht und sie hat das Buch insgesamt nach oben gehoben. Leider für mich bisher das schwächste Buch, viel Charakterentwicklung und die interne Beziehung Strike/Robin wird weitergebracht, aber der Fall an sich war für mich nicht so spannend, dass es mich vom Hocker gerissen hat. Wenn das nicht das bisher beste Cormoran Strike Buch war, dann weiß ich auch nicht^^ e Und das finde ich obwohl ich den Mord vor den beiden Detektiven (oder besser bevor ich als Leserin die Lösung lesen konnte) gelöst habe^^ und es mich tierisch genervt hat,das Robins Ehe einen so starken Fokus hatte- nicht etwa das dieser Teil mich nicht interessiert hätte, aber ich konnte kaum ertragen, wie spannend dieser Umstand erzählt wurde. Am liebsten hätte ich mehrmals vorgeblättert, weil ich endlich aufatmen wollte um die Lösung zu kennen. Aber ich blieb standhaft! Sehr überzeugt haben mich nicht nur Atmosphäre und die unerwartete Komplexität des Falles. Auch die Figuren waren interessant und gerade ihre Verwicklungen und Verknüpfungen untereinander fand ich sehr gelungen. Es war einfach richtig gut erzählt! Gerade auch die Hintergründe des Mordes, das war aus einem bestimmten Blickwinkel so gut nachvollziehbar. Außerdem wirkte es durch das ganze Setting in den Kreisen in denen hauptsächlich ermittelt wurde auch sehr lebendigt und glaubwürdig. Im Hintergrund die Olympischen Spiele in London, jede Menge High Society, aber auch Demonstrationen, Pubs, die nicht so herausgeputzten Stadteile Londons. Ich konnte mich richtig in die Handlung fallen lassen. Sicher auch weil Cormoran und Robin für mich so tolle Figuren sind. Ich bin immernoch so froh das sie eine immer größere Rolle zugedacht bekommen hat. Ich fand sie schon ab Band 1 klasse. Nach den Ereignissen aus Band 3, fand ich es super, wie es Galbraith/Rowling gelungen ist, daran anzuknüpfen. Außerdem hat der starke Fokus auf ihr auch dafür gesorgt, das man wirklich gemerkt hat, wie sich die Figur sich im laufe der bisherigen Bände entwickelt hat. Robin ist definitiv eine tolle Frauenfigur. Cormoran war dieses Mal dadurch weniger im Fokus und ich finde das hat ihm auch mal gut getan ;). Und was jetzt?? Ich bin schon ganz hibbelig weil ich Band 5 kaum erwarten kann.
I've been a fan of Cormoran Stike since day one, but as I am pretty bad when it comes to keeping up with book series, I didn't know book number 4 has been published until my MIL asked me if I wanted to read the book after she's finished it. A week later, I started with Lethal White and within the first few pages, I remembered why I like this series so much: JKR way of writing and describing things never fails to amaze me. The story begins where the third book ended - with Robin's and Matt's wedding. And even though I was kind of annoyed by the bad timing some people show throughout said wedding and particularly throughout the entire book, deep down I really appreciate JKRs decision of telling the story that way. The case Robin and Strike have to deal with this time is - as always - pretty interesting and not what it seems to be. I have to admit, though, that I got kind of confused with all the people being intruduced. Plus toward the end, I kinda guessed who was the bad guy before it was revealed. That being said, Lethal White deserves 4 stars.
A captivating addition to the Cormoran Strike novels. After Career of Evil being a bit of a disappointment it seems that Joanne K. Rowling has found back to her previous shape. Even though it’s a big book (650 pages) it is hard to stop flipping the pages more often than not. From time to time I found the plot somewhat confusing (it really is) but then you can always be sure that Rowling will give you all the information in the end and nothing stays unexplained. In addition to that and being a horsey girl myself I was particularly fond of the times that Strike was learning about greys, bays and piebalds. I had honestly thought (and I hope I’m not the only one?) that the title referred to cocaine or some other drug… I just found out that Lethal White will most likely not be the finale of the series - does anybody know just about when the fifth part will be published?
