Absolutely love it, most definitely my fave read in 2025
I read this book last summer (just forgot about giving a review) and I absolutely loved it. This book was basically my first introduction to Ann Liang and now I'm obsessed with her books. Her writing style is so nice and easy to read but still so emotional and descriptive. You could FEEL the emotions, the pressure, the struggles... Just everything, I even had to cry while reading it. I just couldn't put the book down because it was THAT good!! It even felt very relatable to me... Peak people pleaser behavior after all. But yeah, although for some it might seem quite childish or simple or something, I think it's nice to have a wholesome and sweet story that can still bring you to your tears while also feeling comforting. Long story short, absolutely loved the writing, the characters and the story in itself! 10/10 can totally recommend, please read it!!
„You were right, Sadie Wen. I am completely, helplessly obsessed with you.“
I hope this doesn‘t find you by Ann Liang I think I‘ve just finished my new favourite romance book EVER. I had so much fun reading about Sadie and Julius, I finished this book in two days. That‘s really fast for me! There were so many moments, where I just had to laugh out loud because this book was soo funny!! The romance is everything I want in a romance book. Academic rivals, banter, cozy, fun, a guy who doesn‘t hold back when someone disrespects his girl. The tension between these two was having me on the edge of my seat until the last page of the book. In my opinion this book was just perfect. And I guess that‘s the only right opinion. Already one of my favourite books of the year!

,,In order to beat the enemy you have to understand them intimately ..."

I would give 4 stars to my reading experience. I definitely enjoyed it and was invested. I liked the characters, especially Julius. However, the book could've been longer, and the full potential of the story wasn't used. I would've loved it if it had 200 pages more. Even though it was slow-burn, I still feel like the story could've been longer, especially to explore the characters' family problems more. It would've been interesting to get to know Julius' family... All in all, I liked it. I love academic rivals/Enemies To Lovers, and the trope was well used in this book. I also liked the setting. Cute read, that I would definitely recommend 🤗 📷 made by me: https://pin.it/1gWdT4WPp

Sadie is a teenage girl who feels responsible for everything. As a consequence, she has to have the best grades (so she can have a good career in case her brother's sports career doesn't take off), help her mother run their bakery, join a lot of extracurriculars, be the most helpful, and have the perfect image. A lot of this gets exacerbated by her rivalry with her classmate Julius. Julius is charismatic and well-liked without having to put a lot of effort into it. The only one he isn't using his charms on is Sadie. She hates it, but she is determined not to break her collected façade, even when she is boiling over with rage. The only time she doesn't put on a brave face and let's out all she's feeling, is when she channels all this rage into replying to her emails... and then never sending the reply. Instead, these passionate rants sit in her drafts. When these replies accidentally get sent, it sends Sadie in a spiral. All her perfectly crafted balance and image is now shattered. The book follows how she copes with that. As everyone now already knows all the worst thoughts she has about them, Sadie starts to drop her façade from time to time, learning that she doesn't have to cater to everyone's whims for them to like them, but people might just like her for who she actually is. The biggest change comes in her relationship to Julius, who most of the mad emails were about. When we first meet him, he accuses Sadie of being fake, and when Sadie drops her friendly demeanor, she realizes that it's much more fun fighting back than just taking what he throws her. She starts liking to fight with him, and maybe even liking him. But going from rivals to friends or even more is not so easy when you've been fighting for a long time. I really enjoy rivals-to-lovers stories, so this story was a perfect fit for me. It's cute, well-written and fast-paced, with an interesting cast of characters even beyond Sadie and Julius (even though the others are not much of a focus). The romance goes hand-in-hand with Sadie's character development, which makes this in parts a coming-of-age story as well. She learns a lot of lessons about her place in the world, without this being fully separate from the romance or it being only a secondary effect of the romance. With stories where the romantic leads start off fighting or hating each other, it's always a delicate balance for a romance to not fall into toxic stereotypes (not that those cannot be fun to read) or skip a few steps in the development. "I hope this doesn't find you" managed to do this very well, showing us where the conflict stemmed from on both sides, having both be equally invested in this rivalry and their fights then turning to debates and later to conversations. The story also hits a few of the more clichéd tropes that I'm not as big of a fan of, but the important development is still done in ways that feel very true to the characters that this didn't even bother me much. Can and will recommend this book.
A romcom book that will make you giggle and give you the urge to kick your feet.
For me, this book is one of the best "enemies to lovers" books I have ever read. The tension between the two remained until the end, and the heated discussions only became more passionate. Julius is obsessed with her, and the way Ann Liang describes him in small remarks made me fall in love with him within a few pages. I feel so incredibly sorry for Sadie that I just want to give her a hug. She struggles with the feeling of always having to be perfect and at the same time never being good enough. And that's why I love Julius. He shows her how wonderful she is and pushes her to achieve great things. She is never too much for him and the way he admires her is just adorable. And yet he is still written so realistically. He is a teenage boy who is afraid of rejection and is just as lost in Sadie as she is in him. I read the book in one day and don't regret searching all over London for it.

For ten years I thought I was preparing to destroy you, when really I was preparing to love you.” shut up omg i can’t this was adorable. i’m really glad to gave this book a second chance because wow. this author has such a beautiful writing style, i can't wait to read if you could see the sun. “You were right, Sadie Wen. I am completely, helplessly obsessed with you. Love, Julius” julius is such a sweetheart literally the perfect book boyfriend and sadie was so relatable even though i had a lot of trouble liking them at first, it changes so quickly and now i’m obsessed with them.
Rating: 3.5 An enemies to lovers story which was decent to read but not very believable. The characters in this book have their own quirks to make them standup, and the main character herself is an overachiever who worked very hard to get where she was. Her rival is a guy who seems to be effortlessly perfect and has been a thorn in her side since she was nine. Yet, despite the scathing emails she has written, this somehow pivots them away from rivalry and into a romance that just immediately ignites despite years of disinterest. Basically, if you want a fluffy quick romance, then this is up your alley. More of a slow-burner myself.
Like always, loved Ann Liangs writing. Beautiful. I also loved the story (though its clearly a rip off from to all the boys I've loved before but in a good way) and the characters, especially Sadie, were super relatable for me. Also love the dynamic between Sadie and Julius. They are the best written Rivals to Lovers in my opinion because they never stopped being rivals in the first place. It just felt very natural. Just didnt quite get the 5 star feeling. But loved this book!!

“I Hope This Doesn’t Find You” was a bit of a mixed experience for me. The first half felt slow and somewhat flat—nothing really grabbed my attention, and it took me quite a while to finish. The plot was pretty basic and leaned heavily on typical YA tropes, so it didn’t feel very fresh or exciting. At first, I struggled to connect with the main characters, Sadie and Julius. Sadie came across as a bit irritating at times, and Julius didn’t stand out much for me early on. But as the story progressed, I started warming up to both of them. They became more engaging and relatable, which definitely improved my overall impression. Unfortunately, the ending felt too abrupt and left me wanting more closure. It was sweet but rushed, and I wish the book had given more space to fully wrap up Sadie and Julius’s story. All in all, it wasn’t a mind-blowing read, but there’s something charming about it once you settle in. If you’re looking for a light YA romance without big surprises, this might be worth your time.

⤷‧₊˚ ⭑ ⭑ ⭑ ⭑ “And now there’s you. This whole time, it’s been you, and I didn’t even realize. In retrospect, it makes sense, doesn’t it? In order to beat the enemy, you have to understand them intimately. You have to observe them, learn their weaknesses, memorize their every word, track their progress, predict their next move.
