Ich hatte hohe Erwartungen an das Buch, da If We Were Villains mein absolutes Lieblingsbuch ist. Nach Graveyard Shift hatte ich ein bisschen Angst, da mir die Novelle nicht ganz so gut gefallen hat, aber die Angst war absolut unbegründet. Das ganze Thema Rockband in den 90ern war sooooo spannend! Unsere Protagonistin begleitet die Band ihres Vaters mit auf Tour als sie 10 Jahre alt ist und wird dort die einzige Zeugin eines verzweifelten Verbrechens. Jahre später stirbt ihr Vater und hinterlässt ihr alles, was er besitzt, obwohl sie keinen Kontakt hatten. Sie begibt sich daraufhin auf einen Roadtrip um Antworten zu finden und sich selbst wiederzufinden. Das Buch wird als Rock’n’Roll Thriller vermarktet, für mich war es eher ein General Fiction Buch mit einem miniiii kleinen mysteriösen Subplot. Trotzdem war es unglaublich spannend. Wir befinden uns in mehreren Zeitleisten und POVs. Das Damals, als sie auf Tour waren, das Dazwischen und das Heute. Zudem bekommen wir die Jetzt-Zeitlinie nicht nur aus Sicht der Protagonistin mit, sondern auch aus Sicht ihres Mannes, den sie gerade im Begriff ist zu verlassen. Wir hatten Wendungen, mit denen ich nicht gerechnet habe und Szenen, die mich sprachlos zurückgelassen haben. Am Ende hatte ich ein Gefühl von Leere in mir, weil es sich angefühlt hat als wäre ich selbst wochenlang mit der Band auf Tour gewesen und müsste sie jetzt verlassen. So atmosphärisch geschrieben, dass sich die Personen lebensecht angefühlt haben. Ganz große Empfehlung! 🥹
