Description

Having made a miraculous recovery from the grevious injuries he suffered on Davin, Warmaster Horus now leads the triumphant Imperial forces against the rebel world of Isstvan III. An unprecedented alliance between the Sons of Horus, Death Guard, World Eaters and Emperor' Children Legions seems more than capable of overwhelming the paltry mortal defences - indeed, such a display of force seems unneccesary? it is really impressive, how the overall theme is getting darker and darker and also the beliefs of Horus are getting more worrisome with every page. This book is an epic continuation of its predecessor of the Horus Heresy and really delivers the grief and despair. of the Astartes legions. I had to start with the next one right after it!

The Horus Heresy reaches a high point in the third book, this time written by Ben Counter. Immediately, the writing style feels smoother compared to the second and even the first book. The characters are handled well, and the pacing is much more fluid. Most of the book revolves around Istvaan III, where Horus's plans come into full effect—brother against brother. The point of view alternates between the action-packed battles of the Astartes and the perspectives of the remembrancers, Euphrate Keeler and Sindermann. These shifts provide a refreshing pause before diving into the next big action scene. A fantastic book!
