This book follows an Ultramarines chapter that intercepts a message from the Fist of Macragge, telling its demise. What unfolds is a 300-page uninteresting chase sequence featuring a cliché Space Wolf, a plot-armored Thousand Sons captain (Mhotep, my beloved), and endless cycles of warp jumps and explosions. Warp, explosions. Warp, explosions—again and again. The characters are flat—barely even one-dimensional—and the writing feels premature, occasionally edging into outright infuriating. The only redeeming aspect was the depiction of the warp in a few scenes, which was genuinely intriguing. Beyond that, it’s action movie slop with a storyline that doesn’t really matter. I'm only giving this 2 stars because of Mhotep. Holding his hand in marriage, amen.
