Description

His duty is to the flames.

His heart belongs to her.

Which will he let burn?

Being a wildland firefighter is all I've ever known. It's my greatest passion. But this dangerous job destroyed my parents' marriage, so I knew I'd never be a relationship kinda guy.

All of that changes when my best friend moves his recently widowed - and pregnant - younger sister and her two kids in next door. I've been crazy about Teddy for years. And after I assist in her emergency home birth, I find myself spending more and more time near her and her kids. Teddy's heart is locked up after losing her husband, and breaking down her defences is damn near impossible . . . but I want to show her that I'm here to stay. For all of them.

As superintendent, my duty to my crew has always been my priority. But with Teddy's heart on the line, can I give up the only life I've ever known? Or am I doomed to be honor bound and lose the only woman I've ever loved?

Xander hellooooo pining for a woman for years. Tbh I love it when a man is obsessed with a woman. He’s such a sweetheart, not just with teddy but with her kids as well. Teddy; my heart. She went through so so much I cannot even fathom how hard it must’ve been. She’s brave, strong and has this warmth in her for all the people she loves. But needs to try to give herself some of it. I loved their relationship unfold, how they brought something out of it in each other. All in all my favorite of this series!

When the nights darkest, the mornings not far … Omg! Okay, hear me out: The last one was the best, THE BEST of the three Skyridge hot shot books! I loved Cal and Scottie, I really liked Rowan and Vi, but Xander and Teddy…? Oh my gosh, their story broke me and reforged me all in one book.

I’ve rarely cried so much during the first fifty pages, as I did over teddys story. It was so so so so amazingly told. Her struggles, how she dealt with the grief, tried to stabilise her kids life’s and hold her family together. And Xander? I love this MMC so so bad! He set a whole new level of expectations into men in general for me! I loved their story and I currently lack the words to describe how connected I felt with those characters, their life’s their journeys just everything. Okay, and the story? It was perfect. The side characters? Is it enough to say I did a lot of private screenshots for my BFF? Yep. And she’s definitely reading the series as well! I felt this friendship between Teddy, Scottie and Vi! And Danielle did an incredible job of putting all those three storylines from the other books together. And all the healing story? It was perfect… just perfect! I think this book is my favourite read for 2026 so far and the whole series is going to hold a very special place in my mind forever! And am I lucky or what? Danielle is just going to publish the first book of her new series in a few days. Can’t wait to read Zachs story, Xanders Brother, too! Count me in for another steamy hot firefighter romance. It’s not to much to say, I am a little in love with Xander, is it? He’s definitely book boyfriend material! He will live rent free in my head from now on. And Teddy? She’s simply the best! All the stories were amazing, but I liked Teddys and Xanders best. If you’re reading this and considering to read the series, just do it. You won’t regret it. For me it was a full 5+ /5 star read and I HIGHLY recommend it.

My great undoing - this book wrecked me in the best way.

„Honor“ by Danielle Baker completely wrecked me in the best way. The story follows a deeply emotional journey of grief, healing, self love and struggling as a single parent, where past wounds and new responsibilities collide in the most intense way. The plot twist(s) hit hard, adding even more depth and emotional weight to an already powerful story. Men written by women >>> because Xander? The man that you are!! Truly the biggest green flag on earth. The way he shows up for Teddy and her kids had me standing up and applauding. But it’s not just what he does, it’s the way he yearns for her that completely broke me. This book felt like my great undoing, I swear my heart physically hurt while reading. The character development was phenomenal: so raw, real and incredibly touching. You could feel every step of their growth and every moment of vulnerability. It was nonstop emotional, I felt deeply with them. It didn’t just stay on the surface, it hit straight to my soul. And in case you were wondering… yes, I shed many tears. Definitely my favourite book of this series!

Not as good as the other books in the series

The last book in the Sky Ridge Hotshots series, and unfortunately not as good as the other two. I didn't like Zanders from the start, and I also thought the relationship between him and Teddy progressed far too quickly. Teddy had just lost her husband, and after only a few months, she already had feelings for him. I also disliked the ending/epilogue and would have preferred a different ending. However, what I did appreciate was the strong bond between the other characters from the previous books and how they all helped each other. I also enjoyed the writing style and the audiobook.
