Note to self: sometimes it's not a good thing to be able to relate to some parts of a book's setting :D That being said, this got better towards the middle, but it was not for me. In the beginning there were allusions to the class difference of the romantic partners as possible conflict and I thought it was incredibly weird that such a big, big part of a shared future wasn't explored and just dropped off the face of the narrative completely. These characters were pretty one-dimensional to me. Where did the part about aspirations as an artist go, for example? Then the focus on dirty talk as a big part of the romantic dynamic was a hit and miss for my personal tastes, but I'm certain it will make many readers happy! Love the existence of a pan character, even though that identity was by no means explored, but it was there and it was taken seriously and I appreciate that. Content notes: One of the characters is a fire fighter, there is discussion of doing a job around hazardous situations and safety concerns. An animal shelter burns down, but no animal deaths are discussed - maybe there weren't even any. One character has experienced rejection by their parents for being queer, which is discussed in several instances, especially when the importance of chosen family is centered.
