Seit Jahren bin ich Fan von Commissario Brunetti und habe mich wie immer auf den neuesten Fall gefreut. Auch dieses Mal ist es Donna Leon wieder gelungen, mich gut zu unterhalten und hatte während des Lesens mehr wie einmal ein Lächeln auf den Lippen. Sie versteht es gekonnt Seitensiebe zu verteilen, allerdings könnte sie sich ihre Wiederholungen, wie sehr Venedig sich doch negativ verändert hat, für meinen Geschmack ruhig sparen. Dennoch gibt es von mir volle Punktzahl an Sternen. Für jeden Fan sicherlich ein Genuss, ansonsten gibt es von mir eine Leseempfehlung.
Ich habe mich so wahnsinnig auf dieses Buch gefreut! Ich liebe die Krimis mit dem sympathischen Commissario Brunetti von Donna Leon so sehr, dass man wirklich sagen kann, dass es sich um eine meiner Lieblingsreihen handelt. Ich fühle mich zu Hause wenn ich einen Krimi mit Brunetti lese und alle mir so bekannten Personen wiedertreffe: Ispettore Vianello, Vice-Questore Patta, Elettra, Brunettis Frau Paola und ihre Kinder, ja sogar Sergente Alvise und Tenente Scarpa! Ich freue mich immer von diesen Personen zu lesen. Wie man es von Donna Leon kennt, ist dieser Krimi wenig actionreich. Aber so muss ein Brunetti sein, ruhig und ausgeglichen, nur nicht zu hektisch. Aber von den von mir erwähnten Personen fehlt leider im grössten Teil des Buches jede Spur. Vice-Questore Patta ist unglaublich zahm. Brunettis Kinder nehmen überhaupt keine Rolle in diesem Buch ein und Vianello ist nun irgendwie endgültig zum Nebencharakter degradiert worden. Hmm. Der Kriminalfall an und für sich ist toll und so wie man es von Donna Leon kennt. Man fühlt sich wieder in Venedig daheim. Aber der letzte Zacken zu einem 5-Sterne-Buch fehlt einfach. Mir hat es sehr gut gefallen und ich habe viel gelacht, aber einiges habe ich doch auch vermisst. Der grösste Teil war, wie schon gesagt, dass meine lang geliebten Charaktere endlich wieder eine etwas grössere Rolle übernehmen sollten. Dafür kam die von mir schon im ersten Brunetti-Teil nicht sonderlich gemochte Flavia Petrelli eine immens grosse Rolle zugesprochen. Nun ja. Für die Geschichte war das natürlich nötig. Es soll ja Leute geben, die sie als Charakter mögen. Was bei den Brunetti-Büchern natürlich immer wirklich schade ist: Sie sind einfach zu kurz. Die maximal 350 Seiten, welche diese Bücher in der Regel haben, sind IMMER viel zu schnell wieder vorbei.
This 24th Commisario Brunetti mystery is an exception in this series as a former main character, Flavia Petrelli, makes another appearance. This rarely happens in Donna Leon's books, apart from the main cast(Brunetti's family and friends, the police corps and the people working in the various places Brunetti frequently visits) all characters usually don't appear more than once. I was looking forward to this because Flavia is a very memorable character and it had been a while since her last appearance. I also enjoyed that parts of the book were told from her perspective, also something uncommon in this series. The setting at the opera was also well-chosen. It reminded me of the first book, Death at La Fenice, one of the most memorable and best crime novels I've ever read. But even though all the conditions were set for me to expect a great mystery I still found the book rather mediocre. I found Brunetti and his colleagues quite slow-witted: my Italian is very rudimental but I saw the meaning of "É mia" much faster than any of the police did. I also found Signorina Elettra's strike rather ridiculous and wondered why no one found Alvise's suspension without payment weird. On the positive side I liked the idea of the stalker, something I find very scary. The show-down was great but I wish that the stalker hadn't died and we would have found out more about her motives and why it was exactly Flavia she was after.
