A novel describing the world war from the perspectives of citizens from all major participating nations. Ken Follett is as entertaining as Jeffery Archer minis the happy endings. He shows the reality proving that war is never beneficial whether you win or lose it. And it is a result of inflated egos rather than a thought out strategy.
A dragging, not really interesting story that had to be read because I have a sequel at home. I gave it two stars just because I don't really give one star to the book I hope the sequel would be better...
Read the German version, "Sturz der Titanen" as an eBook. With a book as thick as this, an eBook is really easier to read as it is a lot less heavy! Liked it, though I have to admit a skipped a lot of the Russian part - just do not like Russia as a plot - and the war scenes. Nevertheless interesting, I did not know much about World War I before. Will probably read the other two parts of the trilogie as well.
