What's love without a little magic?
As a teenager, lovelorn Jessica Gold cast a spell that went disastrously wrong and brought her a lifetime ban from the World Council of Witches. So no one is more surprised when, fifteen years later, tall, handsome Derrick Winters shows up in her quaint little village and claims that Jess is the Chosen One, destined to save West Harbor from a sinister force.
But just when Jess is beginning to think that she and Derrick might have a certain magic of their own, Jess learns he may not be who she thought he was.
Now she must make a choice: trust Derrick and work with him to protect West Harbor, or use her gift as she always has: to keep herself, and her heart, safe.

This wasn't it for me... I know this author is very much beloved in the reomance genre so I'll give her another chance probably, but this being my first read from her did not make me want to read anything else of hers. So this story doesn't really know what it is, is it a "Chosen one" story, with a strong world building (...), is it a fake dating, meet-cute, is it a high school drama focused fantasy novel.... Sadly, it manages none of this successfully. The story is this (i guess) : Jessica is a witch (but also, anyone can be a witch, but not actually everyone?) and she did something aweful when she was young. Now, she's an adult and that guy, Derrick, comes into her life to tell her she's the Chosen One, and she'll need to help of the Bringer of Light to not have their town explode with demons or something. It's all kinda blurry to me and Jessice very much doesn"t ask a lot of questions. So course the guy is hot. And they end up having to (I mean it doesn't really add anything to the story imo) pretend they're dating. There's a mean girl, like high school grade. Whatever, nothing made sense; Turns out the thing she did whenshe was young, actually she didn't really do it. Idk, idk.
