Frederick Forsyth, geboren 1938 in Ashford/Kent, war mit neunzehn Jahren der jüngste Jetpilot der Royal Air Force. Nach seinem Ausscheiden war er als Auslandskorrespondent in verschiedenen europäischen Ländern tätig. Ab 1965 arbeitete er als Fernsehreporter der BBC unter anderem in Westafrika. The typical story of an atypical hero slugging it out against the bullies who manage to undo all his good work. What is different here is the villain is far more resourceful and for a time you actually feel he deserves not to be caught. The pace is good, the story is not overloaded with characters and the descriptive passages are good. The only issue is that the author likes his writing about Europe so much that readers like me who have never been there can find themselves out of depth.
