Hier passt für mich alles zusammen: es gibt eine interessante Fantasy-Welt, die gerne verwendete Elemente (untergegangene hochentwickelte Zivilisation deren Überreste präsent sind) mit einem frischen Magiesystem (Beschwörung) kombiniert. Die Geschichte wird aus mehreren Perspektiven erzählt, denen ich allen gerne gefolgt bin, auch wenn Temi und Jinao meine Favoriten waren. Im Lauf der Geschichte wird die Welt immer mehr erkundet und die Entdeckungen treiben den Plot voran. Ich freue mich schon auf den zweiten Teil.
Das war episch, in vielerlei Hinsicht. Weltenbau, Story, Figuren. Letztere fast ein bisschen zu zahlreich, deshalb würde ich empfehlen, das Buch nicht in tägliche, kleinere Leseabschnitte einzuteilen (so wie ich anfangs), sondern zu versuchen, länger am Stück zu lesen, um so richtig in diese reichhaltige Welt eintauchen zu können. Inspiriert von verschiedenen realen, nicht-westlichen Kulturen, mit tech-as-magic und ein paar Enthüllungen, die mich mit den Ohren schlackern ließen, war es ein ganz besonderer Trilogieauftakt, den ich nur empfehlen kann.

This book is not something you can read lightly, you will need all your braincells. But then you will be rewarded with epic fantasy that has a slow but thorough worldbuilding. Yes it takes a while until 'things happen' but once they do you can almost hear everything falling into place.
