Description

An instant NEW YORK TIMES and INDIEBOUND BESTSELLER!This dark and thrilling romantasy—set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Serpent & Dove series—is perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas! Célie Tremblay has always been a good girl: kind and beautiful, a daughter of whom every parent would be proud. She surprises the entire kingdom when she defies tradition to become the first huntswoman—including her new captain and fiancé, Jean Luc, who rules the huntsmen with an iron fist. He isn’t the only one concerned for Célie’s safety, however. Though her friends try to protect her from the horrors of her past, mysterious whispers still haunt her, and a new evil is rising in Belterra—leaving bodies in its wake, each one drained of blood.Determined to prove herself in her new role, Célie tracks the killer to the lair of Les Éternels—ancient creatures only spoken about in nursery rhymes—and catches the attention of their king, a monster who hides his plans for her behind beautiful words and sharp smiles. Now Célie has new reason to fear the dark because the closer he gets, the more tempted she feels to give in to his dark hunger—and her own.

I wanna say I love a good 'only one coffin' book, but I think this is the first 'only one coffin' book I ever read. So there's points for creativity. And I have to preface that I have only glimpsed at the original trilogy of Serpent and Dove. Thus I was not pre-involved with the characters or the world. That said, I still enjoyed the book very much.

The FMC has a fantastic character development throughout the story, and I find her fully developed and highly interesting. The blonde, tall and brooding one though is a mixed bag. I found him cringe at the start, rather interesting in the middle, and weird at the end. And way less sexy than he should be. Gladly though the story does not depend on the romance (if you wanna call it that) The vampire world is really cool and just the right amount of dark. I think all in all I'm hooked enough to stay in this world a bit longer. The audiobook is really great for this, making this long story fly by and giving the right vibes. 4/5 stars Thank you @netgalley and @harpercollins for the eARC! #TheScarletVeil #SerpentAndDove #Netgalley #Bookstagram

4.5 ⭐️ More an advice than a review: Read the Serpent & Dove series first to understand the whole story.

I developed a love-hate-relationship with this book!!

Okay to give some context: I have not read the Serpant & Dove trilogy beforehand because I didnt know you had to read it beforehand because it takes place before the scarlet veil. With that being said I had a really hard time diving into the world, the characters and the vocabulary. It was only until the second Part of the Book where I really got invested. The vocabulary is quite advanced and I did have to look up some adjectives or verbs and french terms which was quite cool! All in all, it didnt feel like 600 Pages and I had a great time once I got into it! I love how Celieè's lovestory isnt rushed and how she has to overcome some difficulties. NOW LETS TALK ABOUT THE EPILOGUE: WHAT WAS THAT I am so excited for Book 2😍
