"Everless" is set in a world where time is quite literally money and Jules' father is running out of it. To prolong her father's life, Jules returns to Everless, the place they fled ten years ago, as a servant. There she learns that both the people there and her memories of her time there are not quite what she thought they were, including herself. This book was fine. The worldbuilding and the characters were interesting enough, but the line between characterization/worldbuilding and plot holes was very thin. There was always some kind of explanation, but it was usually very flimsy. The protagonist was reckless in a way that left as the only explanation as to why: "Because for the plot to proceed she needed to do this." All in all, it was still not a bad book. I got annoyed at how flimsy the in-world explanation were, but still enjoyed the overall story, especially the way Jules discovered what the people she knew as children were like as adults now. The idea of time as a currency is also something that has fascinated me for a while (e.g. in the movie "In Time"), and it was still fascinating to see the author's interpretation of such a premise. But the execution lacked a little, so this is a 3.75 stars for me.
