Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s “Learned”

Lena Dunhams Essays tun richtig weh. Sie beschreibt eine Zeit, die mir sehr bekannt vorkommt mit all ihren Höhen und Tiefen. Ich bin im gleichen Alter wie sie und konnte mich mit vielen Dingen identifizieren. Dennoch glaube ich, dass diese Essays für die neue Generation Frauen nicht mehr aktuell sind und daher an Relevanz verloren haben. Die Serie Girls ist trotzdem absolut sehenswert!

I really wanted to like this book. I saw it on Tumblr a few times and everbody was like 'OMG it's so awesome, she's really not that kind of girl! This book will inspire you!' (SPOILER ALERT: IT WON'T.) So when I was in London I saw this book in a store and immediately bought it. The cover looks amazing, everbody on Tumblr loves it. It has to be good, right? There are five sections (Love & Sex, Body, Friendship, Work, Big Picture). So i expected A LOT. The title says 'A young woman tells you what she's "learned"' but whenever i finished one of the chapters I was like 'So, what HAS she learned?' There are a few lists (e.g. '18 unlikely things I said flirtatiously', '10 reasons i love NY', 'My top 10 health concerns'...) What's the point? Why should a reader care why you love NY? She also dedicated an entire chapter to her weight loss, in which she published her "eating diary". All the things she ate and the calories. Does she really think the reader is interested in reading this? I skipped quite a few pages just because I didn't care. Everbody calls her a 'feminist icon' so I was like 'Cool, a book in which a woman talks about feminism! She's probably a role model! She wrote a book about 'things she learned!' maybe younger girls will learn things from this book!' They won't, they probably will be disappointed, just like me. I really can't recommend this book. (English isn't my first language, so sorry if there are any mistakes.)

Somewhat incoherent, just felt like different, partly meaningless anecdotes put next to each other. Also I didn't really find it funny
