This book has all the right elements to make me like it: time travel, a Victorian setting, an interesting cast of characters, humor and pop-culture and historic references that weren't done in an atrocious way. All of that was well-done, the writing was really good, with a lot of dialog, the mystery of the bishop's bird stump actually had me guessing and the whole "we messed up time, (how) do we fix it? " dilemma is something I actually really like. The way time travel is done in this series is quite unique and explained in an interesting way. However, despite every part of the story being well done and appealing to me, I never was really enchanted by this novel as a whole. I don't really know why but I didn't really grow to like Ned too much and felt kind of detached from the story while reading it. Still, I would highly recommend it for all the things it does right.
