DAY TWO: THE WISE MAN’S FEAR

“There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.”

My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me.

So begins a tale told from his own point of view—a story unequaled in fantasy literature. Now in The Wise Man’s Fear, Day Two of The Kingkiller Chronicle, an escalating rivalry with a powerful member of the nobility forces Kvothe to leave the University and seek his fortune abroad. Adrift, penniless, and alone, he travels to Vintas, where he quickly becomes entangled in the politics of courtly society. While attempting to curry favor with a powerful noble, Kvothe uncovers an assassination attempt, comes into conflict with a rival arcanist, and leads a group of mercenaries into the wild, in an attempt to solve the mystery of who (or what) is waylaying travelers on the King's Road.

All the while, Kvothe searches for answers, attempting to uncover the truth about the mysterious Amyr, the Chandrian, and the death of his parents. In The Wise Man's Fear, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

Mr. Rothfuss, your fantastic storytelling left me with a bazillion questions! Can't remember anticipating a book release more than "The Doors of Stone"!

This is just wondeful storytelling, i could not put it down and had so much fun reading this. It continues right where the last book finished. I was so happy to finally, finally have the second book of this series. There are still so very many questions not answered and Kvothes search continues. It's very 'fantasy' and adventerous. It also made me laugh a lot and i liked nearly all of the characters. It's mainly the writing style and the magic system and well thought through world that makes me give this 5 stars. I hope we don't have to wait another two years for the next one.

Still love the writing style of Patrick and was submerged in the story pretty quickly. Small critic: sometimes while reading it felt like there is too much that the author would like to put into the story - maybe at the loss of explaining some things exactly. But as I said, I still enjoyed the second part of Kvothe's story as much as the first and am looking forward to the next part.

Well, another great book with even more mysteries about the main characters and their relationship between each other. I wasn't certain before, but I can easily tell I don't like the parts with Denna at all and I really hope she is among the villains in the later stories - whenever the third book pops up. Another part that was rather distracting for me was Kvothes time in the Fae: It is probably nice as centerpierce for more stories about Kvothe and we still don't have explanations for some of his the other by-names. Without any more spoilers I can say the best parts for me in this book were the university again and his short time with the Adem. Btw: I wonder of Kvothe finishes anything in his life at all.
