Beschreibung

At the end of the 19th century, Buck the dog lives in the Santa Clara Valley south of San Francisco. One day he is kidnapped by his owner's gardener because of gambling debts and taken to the Klondike region of Alaska as a sled dog. In the course of the story, the "call of the wild" reaches him more and more. After many adventures with constantly changing sled drivers, Buck is rescued by John Thornton. The two become an inseparable pair. After the death of his last master, the dog, now without ties to humans, finally follows this call and joins a wolf pack - as its leader. “It was heartbreaking, only Buck’s heart was unbreakable.“ (p. 62) What I took from this book: mankind is a piece of shit and doesn’t deserve the greatness that is dogs. For reals, that was an incredibly heartbreaking story. The writing style was a bit too flowery for my taste at times, but then again added to the truly moving and impactful nature of this book. Especially with phrases like that: “The two mongrels were without spirit at all; bones were the only things breakable about them.“ (p. 57) Adding this book to my ginourmous list of why I want to have to share my life with (a) dog(s) asap.
